Ya, that's why I said "Say..." as an example, as to why I think a student should have less financial burden if can be avoided. But if his parents are funding him, then that's up to him whethere he wants to make the switch or not.

But I know some folks that rather see their children drive an ordinary car than a modified vehicle.

i agree on the waiting to buy a new ride part. if you just keep your ride till it dies and just do minor repairs here and there till your done school, you'll be starting your life ahead of the game. if you go into debt now, when your done school that debt's only gonna get bigger and bigger cause your life will really only be starting then. then comes wifey, first house/home, kids, etc, etc, etc. If your ride runs great now, ride it out, especially cause you put so much into it!

just my 2 cents but i hope you make the right the decision and everything works out for you! cheers!

ok i think we are not addressing the original question...thats not what he asked for....whether to buy the car or not so lets not patronize him for not getting onto debt...

if ma and pa are paying for it....thats great.

35K for a civic.... wow....

That's used BMW territory!!!! I'd rather be cruising in a used M3 or a vette than a civic.

My buddy just picked up a MINT 50th anniversary edition and modded Vette for 30k cdn.

All depends on how you look at it. How much you are going to use the car, how you are paying for it. Buying new is nice, but in the end cost a lot of money, 2 year old car is a better buy imo, and you really don't have that second hand car issues you were talking about. Believe me, I have had a few new cars and honestly, its great in the beginning, but the payments and all that goes with it, maintenance, insurance, gas, etc, it adds up. Just don't rule out other options that might save you headaches later on.

to each is his own.. but i wouldn't want to purchase a BMW unless it has a real good warranty on it.

so many stupid little sensors and electronical problems..

I could not disagree more. IMO my 06 is a million times better then my 6th and 7th gen Civics in every single way. Its safer, in stock form has better handling and performance, its much safer and has standard features and options that were not thought about in the previous cars.

The interior and exterior style may take some getting used to and there may not be alot of after market parts available, but its a far better car then the older Civcs and similar cars in its price range.

If you want to mod a car, buy a 96-00. If you want a great car right form the start, buy a new one.

I'm still considereing an 99-00 SIR or Si when the lease is up on my 03 beause they are a great used car and can be fun to mod. But the new Si and the CSX are both very, very appealing to me.

My 2 cents anyway.
