This is true. Like most alternator locations on smaller hondas, or inaccessibility to the back of headlights. I've just found with the German cars that its a lot harder to access parts, and there's a lot more time and hassle spent on repairing, replacing, and diagnosing, let alone modifying and tuning. I always tend to look at things in a function vs form kind of way and for me personally, Honda takes the crown, that or old mustangs lol. But like you said Martin, it may be inconvenient to one but not to another

I know the op asked for a 2 door , but I would seriously consider a mazda 3
I own a mazda 3 gt aside from my civic, and let me tell you that the mazda 3 is a mix between a european and japanese car. You get all the options and style of the european car with the reliability of a JDM car. I ve had very few problems with my 3 ( mostly suspension) and yes it does consume more gas than a civic (but not as much as others) but it is also more powerfull , 2.3 with 160 hp and 150 torque and its also not that expensive to fix (surprinsily)
....
and the mazda3 that i own is automatic , so standard must feel faster

buy my car
1995 paradise green civic EX coupe, turbo b16 engine making 285whp @ 12psi, heavily modified suspension (springs, shocks, sway bars, strut tower braces), SiR rims, del sol seats, power doors/windows/steering, electronic boost controller, aftermarket engine mounts and stage2 clutch. The car was painted last year after a very very minor rear-end collision (needed a new bumper cover, thats it) and all rust was fixed. I'd sell the car for the low low price of $4500.

If you do your research you will be drawn to the Honda brand. I suggest a 96-2000 series hatch. The last of the civic hatches. Very light. Then drop a big motor in it, customize the interior to your liking and call it a day.

It's a fun car though.
