Need Serious Help Identifying Engine

Alright I am going to make a long story short, I bought an Engine of of Darizzla on this board, it was supposed to be a JDM SIR-II B16A he told me it was a 98. The first engine which I checked out on delivery they ended up dropping. So I ended up getting a new one, I wasn't there for the delivery of the new engine. I've been suspicious of this engine for awhile, but searching just confuses me more. Apparently the SIR-II should have the letter V-TEC bigger then the DOHC (Which Mine does) and my intake manifold does not say PGM-FI (Mine is just blank) so I Figure this is a good sign its the right engine. I recently checked out the date on the engine block and it reads '91! plus on top of that the engine block stamp is 5xxxxxx and from what I have seen this is from an 89-92 engine @ 160 HP. I am getting this information off of Hondatech

http://www.hondaswap.com/forums/inde...howtopic=29823

I have been trying to get a hold of this guy to clarify but he has not responded in about a week which only worries me more. Can anyone give me a surefire way to determine the year and whether or not it is a SIR II and not just and SIR B16a? I'm even willing to take it to someone who knows more then me.

is the map sensor on the throttle body and are they the original spark plug wires? if they are look at the date on the wire might be an indicator of what year the motor was made.

Alright just to clarify the tranny isn't original it is from a GSR, and the ECU is a P30 .. it as well says 91 on it (Not sure if that is the original either). I will check if the Map sensor is on the throttle body. I am pretty sure the date on the engine block can't be wrong though

Yeah I hope so, cause It seems like a really good guy. Just worried and all since I haven't heard from him in so long. I haven't seen him on MSN in awhile, if you do let him know about my situation. I just have a feeling he is avoiding me

What I don't get is if it is a 1st Gen, the Valve Cover would have you believe its not, along with the fact that the connectors are gray and not creme coloured (1st Gens are Creme Coloured) Is it possible to put a valve cover off a second or third gen onto the first gen?

Actually I think the 1st gen Valve covers are different.. Like I said before 1st Gens the DOHC should be larger then the V-TEC wording and the 2nd gens and up are vice versa. Anyway have you seen him on MSN lately?

This is a very unreliable way to identify the motor.

The valve cover could have been swapped.

THat's my guess the valve cover must have been swapped, but its not just that.... The Intake manifold doesn't say anything on it... whereas the 1st gen I think says PGM-FI. If the cover was swapped along with the intake manifold then this is one big scam

i believe i might the same motor as you and mine is 100% from a 92-95 jdm civic sir and it has 170hp my map sensor is not on my throttle body and my wiring harness was indeed gray but my ecu is not a p30 it is a pr3-J01 thats the part that is confusing to me dont overeact until u talk to him and find out for sure what u have, pm me if u want to talk about it more.

I talked to Darizzla on last Thursday, was supposed to meet last Friday, he was a no show and didn't even call me back to say what happened. So nothing has been solved
