Need a mechanic for a clutch and timing belt/water pump

Hi,

Looking for a mechanic preferably in the K-W area but GTA is fine to. I had a great contact for someone that specialized in honda timing belts and quoted me an unbelievable price for a clutch and timing belt but I lost there contact into.

I need a clutch replaced and a timing belt and water replaced on a 99 Civic SIR. I can supply the parts. P.S. I'm looking for a good price. I can do cash if needed.

I have a friend who's a mechanic at Autosparks in Guelph.
Call 519-823-8588 and ask for Dave.

anyone else?

Cheapest quote I have been able to get is $380. Not as good as the $300 I was quoted last winter but pretty good. Only concern is the $380 place isn't a Honda specialist.

I can only suggest you look at our vendors and see what they can do. HiVelocity worked on my car and I recommend them, but look around.

Yep 20% higher and won't price match. They must be pretty busy or really lazy to be turning work.

$380 for a timing belt/wp and clutch install?

That's $38 an hour. That must be some mechanic....

^-- 2nd that.

To take a tranny out and put back in is about $500 anywhere. Without doing any repairs.

Forget the GTA - it's worth the drive to Oakville. Call Zeeman @ High Velocity.

No way most mechanics have told me they can have this done in 7 hours. I offered you $400. Even at 9 hour book rate that's $44 an hour cash for a days work. This is a civic!! It's not like your working on a vw or bmw.

If your shop is full 24/7 I understand. But downtime costs money. If you have downtime why not take the job for $400?

There's a couple that will do it in that price range. Still waiting on parts. After I get them I will start calling the other people mentioned in the thread. Thanks for the recommendations

Someone quoted you 380.00 and your turning that down? you need to understand. shop owners have thousands in over head expenses before they even open there doors. yes its only a Honda, Why not do it yourself then? Im not trying to heat things up or anything. But understand you get what you pay for. and saving 80.00 now might cost you thousands down the road...Some food for thought. I'd go with the shop that more then half the people mentioned in this thread. I've never delt with them myself. But I can tell you I already would go there If I had 10 people telling me there the place to go.

^Absolutely took the words right out of my mouth. It doesn't matter if it's a Civic or a VW. If you have the nerve to criticize someone's pricing, get off your butt and DO IT YOURSELF! Maybe then you will see why people charge what they do for work. It isn't even about quality here, it's about the regard to do things properly. You get what you pay for. If something happens, are they going to take care of you? For $380 it's probably not worth it for them to do that. When I bought my Type R transmission from my mechanic, I paid a pretty penny for it, but only because he said if anything ever goes wrong with it, he will remove the tranny, fix whatever needs to be fixed with brand new parts, and re-install it - for free. All I pay for is transmission fluid. That's the regard, care, and quality you're paying for.
