Need advice on buyin a car which needs the body rebuilded?
Hi, I'm only 17 and I want somethin cheap and nice, I was on auto trader, and I saw a few Civic Sirs w/low Km but w/a smashed front end go for like 5-9gs, i was thinkin if there isn't any structural damage is it worth gettin a car like this? Would it be cheaper on insurance because of the condition? Rite now I have a Toyota Sienna and the insurance is 2gs, if the car can have an insurance which is the same or juss a lil bit more, it's be ok for me, I'd luv to get an SIR and have an EL front end on it

your insurance will probably go threw the roof!
and if there isn't any structural damage, well getting new parts and installing them can be expensive. cause if you do it urself, it probably won't fit right.(unless you have experience doing this)
it really all depends on how much money you got to play around with. but i'm almost certain a 17 year old will not get insured on a sir for around $2000. maybe triple that amount and u'd probably be closer to the quote they'll throw at ya.

your still young i sugest on buying something older like from 89-91 or 92-95 civic. insurance wont be as much. u can find parts for them pretty easily so when things to need repair its not raping you from the ****.
trust me there still great cars and u can easily modify them.
i'm 21 and drive a 94 civc. insurance aint bad on them especialy if u get a base model like a cx or dx. then u can allways do a swap when your money allows you.
for a fraction of the price u can get an older car and still have room in your wallet to modify it to your liking.

You can do anything you want when money ain't issue. But in this case, you got yourself into this insurance bracket of 2000 bucks a year.
17 year old + fast car + 2 door vehicle + manual = high insurance. Anywhere you go you will end up with the same quote. Get a 15 year old car and work from there. A 4th gen Civic is just as good as the later models. You certainly have your favourite picks (SIR + EL front end for instance) but the odds are working against you so you need to compromise somewhere along the line.
You also mentioned you have an EL, so you have 2 cars or that EL belongs to someone else? Like a family member and you wish to spend money on that car?
Anyway, like I said, if you got money to burn (either from yourself or your parents) then just get what you like. But if your resources are limited, you need to step back and look for alternatives.

I got lucky at 16, my first car, i was paying 140 a month
If insurance rates didn't go up so drastically
you could be better off man

Have your father as primary driver and you being Occasional. That will reduce some damages.
Which area do you live? As I learned lately, it also has a dramatic influence on your rates. [edit by bbarbulo: it is BAD to admit fraud on a public board... hope you understand I'm editing this for your own sake]
