My Wife's Integra

My Wife drive's a 97' Teg... Completely Stock, w/ HID lights and alpine deck. Her dad helped her get the car when we were in need of a car(Yes she's paying him back). I feel he was ripped off a few grand (220km's $5000)... Needless to say, she loves the car, and it's great for getting her to work and back. Because her dad picked out the car, he desided it best she gets an automatic. Though she's driven my 96' HB with my B18C ITR w/ S80 LSD with very little problem(says it's to fast lol). Now her transmission is acting up. It doesn't like slowing down, then speeding up. ie: braking for someone turning, then accelerating back to speed, it will 'slip' and rev up. Recently it through a PO700 (Transmission) and a PO740 Torque Selinoid(I Think). I talked with my bud's at Trent Valley Honda, and recommended a few flushes and see how it ran. Worst scenario, it's going to need a Transmission. I was told that the selinoids are about $300 each, and there's a chance that, that isn't even going to fix the problem.

Long Story Short:
I can buy a Transmission Auto for her B18B for $400 used of course.
Or Should we try, and pay a shop, to make it a 5spd?
Please remember, this is my wife's car, not one of my race cars lol.

What parts am I looking for to make this into a 5spd?

I would just buy the automatic transmission for 400.... Its a 97 , your wifes car , so no need to have a 5 speed.

Like you said its not a race car, purely stock and you probably wont keep it for too long.

And yea your father in law paid too much for it

Just leave it auto, no point spending more money that you don't need to.

I can't vote for this, for there are too many variables.

5 spd is good for highway (country, non-congested driving), greater fuel economy, safer to drive during the winter.

Auto would be a little cheaper for the fact that the console is already built for auto. Plus it would be much less annoying in congestion since city-iots are in a rush to save a couple minutes.

It all depends on the scenario and all-year round driving conditions.

I was feeling the 5spd for the economy and control. I hate her car in the winter, it's terrible. Automatics have no idea what to do. Up here in the bruce county, it literally snows everyday in the winter.

The only pro's that I see for an automatic is it's cheaper and probably easier.

thanks Vida for the links! $1100 USD is a little much. However, she also 'wants' a standard over an auto. I think it would be better to fix the transmission, or not, and sell the car then buy a newer integra... or krackers delsol (jokes).

i say auto. the car's not worth putting in $1000+ to make it manual. not just the tranny, you got all the other parts there, as well as labour. unless you do it urself, but then you'd still have to put in a lotta wrench time. if u were gonna make it a track car. then go right ahead. but just a normal DD? i say dont bother.
