my Free 2001 Civic

Hi today i just got my buddys old 2001 Honda Civic DX 4 door it has the D17 auto trany. the reason i got it free is because he crashed it and i painted his Dads motor bike. i was going to use the motor to throw in my 95 Civic Hatch. but my dad said it can be rebuild and sell. the body on the rest look MINT besides the front and great tires like 70% tread and the motor runs like new because it only has 130,000km on her. i dont really wanna strip her then scrap it. id rather give it a new life but it needs airbags as well. but there are 2 lights on one is the SRS and the other is a DRL what are they for? here are some pics.

crappy cell pics (from my friend the day of the crash)

1 hour after it came to my house and looks like a race car lol

130,565KM on her

its mint from the back. and the int is mint as well but no pics

If you can fix the body, go for it.
Drl light is because a bulb broke in the headlight or just got disconnected. SRS is due to the airbags.

From what I can tell you will need a new upper rad support (where headlights mount) and the rest of the obvious parts.
If you can get those fairly cheap, then I say go for it, you will make money off it.
Just a question, was the car branded or tagged that it was in an accident, things like that will depreciate the value.

^^ calm down.
Damage doesn't seem too bad. Other than that corner I don't see whatelse would be wrong. Plus any buyer would get the car checked out by a professional who would tell the potential buyer what's wrong with it.
Also with the amount of cars that are for sale that seem "good" I doubt this is any better. Cars that are "cheesed" up to look good for time being and half a year later paint just pops off, bubbles etc. Or how about the constant "motor is swapped with a new one that has 50-60k on it". I mean how many civics have swapped new motors. Seems like they all are just swapped and being sold and only a week later you realise its burning 2-3L of oil between oil changes.
So I don't see why not to help him out, since this is just body work and not helping him how to make things JUST work for time being.

Well said, Martin.
A question was asked, answers were given.

I bought my car knowing it started life in florida as a US Si (canadian SiR) and had been damaged, repaired and repainted and even stolen at some point in it's life...but I checked over every part of this car and knew it was still solid. Bought it with 90,000kms and she now has 240,000 trouble free kms on her, 4 years later and still going strong.

As long as it has been repaired and taken care of properly, there's nothing wrong with buying a car that was damaged.

This car doesn't look too bad and as long as they take their time and to the repair properly, there no reason someone can't benefit from buying this car. Heck, I may buy it for my wife and get rid of her pos Kia! lol.

Keep us posted on the repair.

so you guys think it is ok to buy a written off car!!! I understand why people do the swaps on their cars and later on sell it and thats a totally different thing, heck I do my own swaps too, but I don't try to sell a wrote off car with all the air bags are blown off. Having those air bags fix probably will even cost more than the car itself, 2nd of all, the car was never reported to the collision center so there is no way it is going to be in carfax etc... openshot had already mentioned that it was parked the whole time after the accicent. Basically, what am trying to point at " AND THIS GOES TO THE MODERATORS HERE ON TCC" why in the hell try to help someone that will later hustle some poor first time buyer kid who thinks he's gonna get an earth shattering deal of the century and finding out later that he bought a wrote off car. I think thats just sad and it MAKES TCC LOOK BAD!!!

umm junk yards do it all the time. plus my dad has over 20 years of body work under his belt. the only problem with the car is the front the motor runs like new trany works great the rad is not even bent. the ac rad is alittle but no leaks. but it would still be worth the time and money to fix it and some one will be happy it will be as strong as it was from the factory or stronger.

I can somewhat relate to your story. I bought my civic knowing it was in an accident (cheapest civic on the marker back then) But i had it check and aside from minor things the car was in mint condition. It came lowered , headers , and a few little bolts on... I bought the car with 140 000 , now after almost 100 000 km put on the car still runs well. I havent had any major problems aside from regular maintenance and some exhaust issues mainly caused because the car is lowered and i drive it through the winter (new muffler , cat back )

Funny thing my old jetta was never in a single accident , and it was a freaking lemon from the start even though i drove it like a lady .. BTW the first 3 years with my civic i beat the crap out of it and it held pretty damn well

To be honest, it's nice to see you showing concern for the next person who buys this car, if indeed it gets put up for sale. Nothing can be assumed, and from the original post, the OP simply asked opinions about restoration of the vehicle.

If there is something dishonest that you are aware of, it's best to contact the authorities; however, if it's only assumptions that you're basing your comments on, then the OP has a right to express his opinion, and so do you...within limits. Unless I'm mistaken, (please correct me if I am), this really has nothing to do with TCC, as it is a public forum, and it doesn't appear that any rules have been broken by this thread. Please feel free to PM Admin (or report this thread) if you feel otherwise.

I think the phrase "caveat emptor" applies in many situations, especially in purchasing a vehicle. If you feel that there is dishonesty here and have proof of any such accusations, then it is wise to contact the OP or, as I said above, the authorities. If so, Admin will take any information you have and act accordingly with regard to the forum.

Again, we do appreciate your concerns.

You must be one of those people who care more about what a piece of paper says about the car than the ACTUAL condition of the car.

Again, if it is fixed properly, there is nothing wrong with re-selling it.

For my car it shows on the carfax report that it was 'salvaged' twice! I know this car inside out and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I don't care what the report says, I know, for a fact, the car is 100% completely fine. It was obviously fixed properly, and I have nothing to worry about.
