My e-test adventure.

I have a ’99 Civic SiR and needed to get an e-test done on it before November this year. The only modification on the car is the suspension: shocks, springs and camber kit. I bought it used about 8 months ago and it was in great shape. I’ve done all regular maintenance as well as some of the more important maintenance on it to make sure everything would be fine for ripping. So anyways, it hasn’t been a problem since I bought it. It runs perfectly fine. OK, so I call Acura in Hamilton to book an e-test but they no longer do them there. So, I call Firestone in Dundas and book an e-test. They try to get it on the hoist but it is too low. They don’t even put an extra effort to get it on. Plus, he refuses to do a two idle test on it because it isn’t listed in the book. He was a real *****. So anyways, I book it with Niagara Battery and Tire for Saturday morning because my brother, with a lowered SiR had his done there. So the car is in the shop and I am waiting. The guy comes out and says he can’t maintain 40kph so can’t do the test. I complain and ***** so his boss tells me to take him for a test drive. I could maintain 40kph easily but they won’t let me do it in the shop. So I’m a bit fed up by now. I call another shop but they are booked. Ok, so now it is time to try Canadian Tire. I call and bring my car in 30min later. They took my car and 20min later the guy says ok it passed. He said he got it on the dyno but couldn’t strap it down so instead he did a two idle test on it. Canadian Tire of all places did the two idle test and didn’t give me any hassle. Man, what a pain this whole deal was. I understand this is good for the environment but come on, what a pain. My car passed but not all that great. It’s funny because my dad has an old ’93 Accord that burns like 1L of oil every other tank of gas and smokes when you start it up in the winter. It passed with absolute flying colours! I really do wonder how effective the test is. Just thought I’d share my story.

it all depends what smoke your 93 accord is blowing out... we all see smoke-like clouds from exhaust during winter... its like you can create white smoke from you mouth when its cold enough haha

but does his 93 accord blow visible smoke in the summer when it starts up?

btw, i'm surprise in the end, its crappy tire that did the job... when i see crappy tire, i was expecting your last time to say, canadian tire broke my lip hahaha

Canadian Tire did my test several years ago, I don't think I'd ever go back, too long of a story to relate here.

However, I do go to a local place called Eastern Auto (on Barton St. E.)...imho, they're very good. Been going there for a while now, and will continue to go back.
