My Civic got in a small accident... and it wasn't even my fault!

On Monday... my Civic got in a small accident @ Kennedy & Finch at about 5:30 PM. I was in the way back home from that area and about to make a left turn onto Kennedy from Finch (to go southbound).. and I was merging into the left turn lane where the white dashed line opens up the lane (ahead of the solid yellow dashed median).

Anyways.. as I'm merging in, I feel my car's steering wheel suddenly jerk like a mother****er. I thought my car had fallen apart... I look to my left and there's a car that's struck my car!

The VW had drove on the yellow line to cut past cars so they could sit in the left turn lane and wait for the light! They were passing off the roadway!

This ****in' VW Golf or whatever drove right into my rim! (thank god not the body or I would have flipped out) Now my rim has a touch of red paint styling on it.

The VW suffered a slight crack on the bumper and missing paint.

Regardless... the man and woman in there.. both looking like they were 35 or so (both chinese) started to immediately accuse me of driving like ****. I told them to go screw themselves since I wasn't the one driving on the yellow line.

The wife started to cuss me out and said I had to pay for all the car's damages and stuff.. and they'd bring it to VW immediately. I told them what the ****, it wasn't my fault. The man insisted I pay them too.

After about 10 minutes of cussing me out and swearing at me in chinese (I understand chinese so I know exactly what they were saying)... I forked over $100 and told them to go **** themselves. Do you think I did the right thing? I don't believe I was at fault but I was conned into giving them $100.

I hope they die on cancer tomorrow!

I kinda folded. I'm the kind of person that rather just give somebody some cash and then tell them to go screw themselves just to get out of more confrontations

My friends all think I'm dumb for doing that since they were the ones that hit me

No offence bro but I'm with your friends.

Ah well....take pride in the fact that if they are taking the car to the VW dealership, $100 won't get them d!ck all.

no but seriously, i think cynikal was joking about hitting your rim... i'll do it for 100 bucks... screw that 80!

why the hell did you pay them? imagine if you hit someone and it was your fault and you asked them to pay you, how stupid would you think they were if they actually paid you...
something like this is when you say fine let's call the cops and see what they say, then they have to fix it themselves (or insurance) and fight a ticket... lol u obvously have too much money floating around, cuz you'd have to argue with me a hell of a lot longer than 10 min, more like 10 yrs, and even then i wouldn't fork over $100....

well... there's obviously pros and cons... let me clarify first, i'm chinese! but i think they are disgrace to my ethnic... DISGRACE! ok... i think you did the right thing in some sense (just hope you never gave them your license number)... 100 bux... i don't think they can actually fix a VW for 100 and if they claim, they are stupid because they don't have your licence # or plate or any ****... well... if you're not at fault... i guess ur insurance won't really matter much, but you don't want to have any accidents record with your insurance... so 100 bux to shut their **** mouths up is decent..... they're probably slamming their head on the wall right now for taking 100! haha

Was there any witnesses? If so, there is no way I would have paid them.
If not, then it is you're word against their's when making a claim.

I wouldn't even give them Canadian Tire money.

They obviously knew they were guilty and used their language to make you feel you were at fault.

Did you get their plate # by chance?

I hate to say it but you are partially at fault because it's your responsibiliy (the person making the lane change) to check before doing so. even if the lane just opens up. as a driver you should be well aware that people can and do cut up those yellow lined medians all the time. it was one of the first things my father told me to watch out for when I had my G1.

whether or not the accident is deemed your fault or not, you got into the accident by not properly checking for traffic. had you been properly aware of the traffic around you this would not have happened.

but thats just my opinion and often I get told "it couldn't be driver error that actually caused this crash."

whats funny is the lack of respect for the insurance process... if you were so sure it wasn't yopur fault you should have offered to go through insurance for it. hmmmm there's an idea....

If you mentioned going through insurance I bet that would have scared them.

i woulda told those bastards to ***** off ... it sounds like u could have prevented it but they still hit u and where driving on yellow line , to me it sounds like more their fault than yours
u should have got money from them for your rim damage , very little but still ... or started complaing of neck pain , then they would have been the ones folding like a lawn chair ... ha

anyway u ever want to give money away for a "just becuz" reason , send me a pm and we can meet up ... i will cuss u out for 10 minutes or so and u can shoot me a C-NOTE .... pm is key bro....

I feel so bad for giving them money but what enticed me to do it was that they were cussing me off and I wanted out of there. I've never really gotten in an accident before and they were saying how it's my fault for doing an improper lane change and I went out right in front of them and stuff... yaddy yaddy yaddy.. they were the ones putting the blame on me so I had no idea if I was at fault or not.

I thought I wasn't at fault but they kept saying I didn't make the proper lane change and stuff.

that happened to a buddie of mine, he was at a stop light and there was a chineese couple infront of him, and the driver reveresed into his car! then the guy gets out and starts fliping out on my buddie in chineese and then muttered some words of english saying he hit him, demanding money!!!

I was in complete shock, i was just standing there with my jaw on the ground shaking my head thinking no way this is happening, what drugs is this guy on. And his wife yip yip yip, i felt like punteing her like a football. Same irritation a yappy dog gives you.

whats up with that... is it a sport in china? cause accidents and try to make canadians fold for money?

my buddies front bumper was already scratched up and **** anyway so he didnt give a ****, he told the guy to stick it ashole and left.

Well ya can't blame him for turtling. Afterall his screen name is "NoSpleeny" But I know what its like to be yelled at by older people. Its intimidating man, especially when your younger. They always get you thinking in the back of your head that your wrong because they are older. I wouldn't feel so bad about giving the $100. Because really that doesn't even cover the cost of getting any of their **** fixed. I think you did the right thing by giving them the money and getting the faq outta there! It doesn't matter whose fault it is in the eyes of the insurance. Someone could crash into your car with your car parked in your driveway. Your insurance would have probably still gone up.
