My car is stripped...

I was bored... so I went out, brought some tools with me, and I started taking out seats and panels at the back.

I took my back seats out once, so I knew how to. But this time, I wanted to take out the plastic panels and back seat belts as well. The back is just... wires and steel now.

I also want to take out the front carpet but that would require dismental of my front seats which I was really tired and not welling to go through the whole deal just yet.

Have I gone too far? The back is just one big hallow space... LOL

Aioy......

hey man good stuff.... i had my entire rear interior out a few weeks ago... it feels so big back there eh?

right now i have it back in but its all just resting in there... some clips are still in but most fell off or got themself lost... i'm thinking of taking out my front carpet as well... just get some good rubber floor mats for the winter and make sure no salt gets left sitting on the floor for to long....

if your going for weight reduction take out all the sound deadening stuff as well.... its kinda a bitch to get out but you can get a solid 20-30 lbs if you get it all out... the best way is to use a hot air gun and a scraper

thats cool man, my buddy and I just ripped out his whole dash out of his hatchback to paint it...thats what I should have done with mine; it would have looked a lot more professional and I will probably end of taking my dash out anyways. I also cut my shifter...
Keep doin what you are doing, its fun and you learn stuff at the same time. Believe it or not, not everyone can rip out their own interior! congrats

i'm going to... i might make some braces at school this week... i'm thinking of a new design for a rear strut brace that would be signifigantly more effective then a regular strut tower bar.... maybe a rear lower tire bar also.... that one is easy enough to do...

then comes the engine bay weight reduction... the a/c has to come out... i think p/s is staying in till i can get the steering rack from a cx which i'm told will improve powerless steering responce..... then who knows what else i can take off

Hey thanks guys.

What's sound-deadening? Something I am not familiar of. But I suppose it is something heavy lol.

Ya my gf saw the car last night. I washed it but didn't wax cause I was too damn tired. Cruised to Richmond area and she got in, wanted to put her coat in the back and just shocked... LOL

I can hear a lot of sounds and stuff coming from the back, which is a good thing cause you will be aware of little noises and get to the problem faster.

Regarding the salt problem in winter, ya I am worried too if there is no carpet in the car.... but eventually, I will get another pair of seats in the front so it is just a matter of time.

I fount 2 things interesting in my hatch:

1) 2 transparent rubber hose running down either side of the car and ended up just before the tail light area. Opening cut on an angle, looks like water outlets.

2) Under the back seat (like right below the centre area) this oval-kidney shape silver cover bolted down with a core leading to some places, what is it?

3) Would the car be street safe? Do I need roll cage to reinforce the body? Now the rear struct top are showing, I will put a rear tower bar for sure (no need to cut the panels anymore)

Thanks boys

umm for that sound deadening stuff... if you look at the floor in the back... you know how some of it is painted metal and some area have like a layer of something which is also painted but is not shiney?? that is the sound deadening stuff... there is a LOT under the front seats and that whole area.... it doesn't seem that heavy at first but when you get all of it up it gets weighty....

i think that silver thing bolted down is the fuel tank... i've never removed it so i dont know whats under it but it has something to do with the fuel tank

as for safety if anything you car would be more safe now cause its lighter and your handling would be better so you could avoid accidents more easily now

mmm.... when I look in the back, I don't know what else I can take out. So those sound deadening stuff are acting as sound barrier? Cause I can't find any other bolts that I can unscrew BESIDES the support below the front area of my back seat. I know that silver piece can be taken out but I didn't just yet. Perhaps someone can show me exactly what a sound deadening thing is on Wed meet.

As for the fuel tank... ya I definitely don't want to touch that LOL

I went even further with my Saturn... I stripped EVERYTHING, headliner and all... all bare metal inside. Waiting for my carpet to come in so I can replace it, and then I'll slowly rebuild everything back up to be a normal, but mint, car.

B, so carpet is important as far as keeping salt off the metal floor right?

Yes all the back seat belts are out. And I saw these holes and I was like... mmm... maybe I should put the bolts back on cause it looks like a deep hole... LOL

So, put the bolts back in or use something else?

About those bolts... you dont need them.

That silver round thing under the back seat is where your fuel pump goes... leave that alone. When doing your fuel pump, it is a lil tricky to pull it out and put it back in... just takes some fiddling.

For the sound deadening, take your seats, and the carpet out, get some dry ice, ****** it around and chip it off... it is like tar. There is about 50lbs worth of the crap. There might also be some in the wheel well where your spare goes. After taking that sound deadening out, this would be a good time to paint the floors

You can also rip apart the dash and take out the a/c stuff in there, the fan, and the heater core... that is about 50lbs worth of stuff at least. But you might want the heater core if you are driving it during the winter.

So don't need the bolts and leave the holes open? Do the holes go all the way to outside?

As for the sound deadening stuff, I think I understand what you mean by now.... the black thingy that sticks to the car, like insulation kinda thingy... What are those for anyway? Sound barrier? Will the car become very noisy after those are gone?
