yeah ..true .screw everyone elses's opinion right......its all about the civic feeling.
i'm 20, and i have a 98 civic si. Thats a nice car for a young guy like me, fresh out of college with a full time job....i expect in the next 3 years or so i will go out and splurge and buy an rsx or something......but for the next while i might as well enjoy the car i have ( only 86,000k's) and use some of my extra cash and make it alittle bit bettter...nothing over board, nice rims, lips, some eng. mods but def. not going for anything show with fiberglass interior, monitors, hydros, ..cuase to me that is a waste...........
and yes i'm sad about the civic class problems..but hey ...we will all get a chance ONE day to drive in a new vehile...
my dads first car was a 70' something civic ( first one out)
not he rolls around in his 2nd lexus ( 35 years later) so ***** OUR TIME WILL COME BoYS- this is just our league right now

Modding cars is definitely not Juvenile...It's exactly what other people have said...a hobby (or at least for me).
No, I may not be the ultimate gearhead, but I look at it as a learning experience. I want to know more about how cars work and the best way to do that is to get underneath one and find out for yourself. Everybody has to start somewhere. Right now I can only do basic things, but as time goes on I will get better and more experienced with automobiles and that's knowledge that I will be able to keep with me for the rest of my life.
Who knows, maybe in 15 years I'll be broke and living in buttf@ck nowhere driving a p.o.s. $500 ford escort wagon and when it breaks every month I'll be able to think back to when I was a "juvenile" working on my civic and be able to come up with solutions that I would otherwise have to pay for.

I am 30, I am a designer, I drive a Civic, so?
People who look down on others are the ones who are desperately seeking attentions themselves.
As far as "car" goes, yes, I will buy another car as I grow older, a sedan, a van (maybe), something that suits the needs of my life stage.
As far as "hot rodding" or "souping up your car" goes, it is a side hobby of mine, aside from many other things I love to do.
I am not the type of person that looks at the car next to me at the red light. You look because you want to know if the other person is looking at you. And you want to know whether he/she is looking at you because you think you look nice with your car - and you want to show off your car. That's artificial status. To me, status is a person's virtue, his knowledge and well being. Not how much money he owns. Cause you ain't taking a cent with you after you die.
As Chinese say, the higher the rice field grows, the more they tip over - as a sign of being humble. Confidence comes from within, not the car.

I respect and can appreciate any car that an owner has taken the time and money to invest in something he cares to build. I honestly don't care if it's a Civic or a Pinto, if the dood enjoys his car, and takes pride in what he has accomplished - then more power to him. I may not like what he has done or I may not have souped up a Pinto myself but I can respect the guy for appreciating his own car.
To say modding is juvenlie is like the people who say "it's just a car" I always say "actually it's not "just a car" it's an extension of my *****, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna honk around town in a tiny, gutless, ugly *****. I will have the biggest, baddest, fastest, prettiest ***** on my block" Hehe
It took an old guy like me a while to truly appreciate the Civic and the whole tuner scene but once I opened my mind to the possibilities and the level of quality some guys can acheive with these cars a whole new world opened up to me.
These cars are the muscle cars of today, so when "Pops" rolls up in his mint ** Camaro convertible and stares down his nose at you in your moded Civic just keep in mind that back in his day he was critisized for modding the cars of his day too.
Any true car guy will appreciate the work involved in the hobby-whether he likes the car or not.

as for status, I could care less, if you judge me on wether I roll up in a 15 year old civic hatch vs. a new luxery car (BMW, lexus, ect.) then you are a tool......

I'm only 18 turning 19, 23rd of March! Anyways, ever since I bought my car I have always been working on it or buying something for it. It's a hobby, its not a phase or just because everyone else is doing it. I do it because I enjoy doing it, I've been doing since I was 16 and I don't plan to stop.

Its true, but its so sad and F'd up that the world is like that. Money and power mean everything.
It's a shame that if my parents go out to dinner at a nice restaurant and they take my moms civic, they will be looked down upon, but if they went in my dad's durrango all of a sudden they get royal service.
I don't follow this example though, ive seen enough turds driving high price autos who I wouldn't give the time of day, and people driving beat up chevettes who are the greatest people ever.
If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna mod a civic to the **** and drive around everywhere and be proud, F this world.

however, if you really did ever win the lottery, i am fairly certain you would go out and buy more than a civic.
