Mod advises please
I just got a 98 Si. I'd like to do some modification on it. Including a set of body kit, suspension, set of rims, header and muffler and so on. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me where can I get these stuff from in Toronto area?
I also don't know which type of suspension would be good for my car. I'm planning to get a set of 17" Konig reign, would it be too big ? And how much can I lower my car with these rims? And can anyone tell me where can I find a place would do a great job on engine swap? Tks |

there is alot you can do! why dont you keep your D series motor, and dump an Edelbrock turbokit on it! guaranteed 60% more HP then a Bseries motor! direct fitment! oh yeah 17"s rims will fit fione, just make sure u lower it! |

To be more specific, I like turn sharp and fast corners. I like the feeling of explosion when I cut lanes. So I guess handling is a main concern in addition to speed to. I'm planning to lower the car for 1.5 inch, since I read that it's about the perfect heigh to lower for a civic. ok, I admit I want the look too. And that's why I consider swaping the engine, cause I want everything under the hood looks brand new and customer, crome and all that. more advises please? |
And those 17" Konig reign come TOYO tires for $1300, second hand, the guy I know him in person, the little rubber hair are still on the tire, he used it for about 2 months, then he had to trade his car for the WRX. Can anyone tell me if it's a good deal? or How much does those wheels worth? They discontinue making them too.

17s are big rims... I'm not sure you'll be entirely happy since comfort is sacrificed... a lot. Maybe look for 16s as a compromise in looks and comfort.
Shocks and springs are the next great upgrade after wheels for both looks AND handling. Then, sway bars... short shifter, strut bar. Then some engine work... but just the susp alone if done well should cost about: $1400 brand new 16" rims $900 Koni Yellow shocks $300 springs $400 sway bars $200 strut bars $100 short shift those are just approximate prices +/- 10% or so. |

How do you autocross? I heard of all of these, sway bars and strut bars, but I never knew how it looks like, and what it does, can someone tell me and may be post a link of the pictures? Are there any brand names for these parts? thanks |
Don't buy anything yet... drive the car as is over the winter, and have fun for the first season on the auto-x courses... then you'll have a better understanding as to what you want your car to do... no point modding the car, and then having to redo it because it's not what you wanted.

Auto X is basically Time Attack - to finish the designated course in the shortest amount of time. Now how you drive through the course takes skills. Obviously, you can drive through any course as long as you drive slow, but your timing won't be too good. If you want a shorter time, you will have to drive fast. But not just step-on-gas-and-go type of fast, you will need to learn how to down shift or double clutch, how to do apex and cut the corner correctly to minimize time lose, where to break, where to apply gas...etc.
Auto X is generally set up in a local large parking lot, depends on the event, it could be somewhere else even larger to hold a national or regional event. You drive through pylons and your car will be sorted into different class depending on what type of mod you have done. We have quite a few guys on the forum who Auto X, and Gatherer is the craziest of them all. He is one dedicated Auto-Xer. He will fill you in on the rest. Starting next year, hopefully I can start participating in some events myself. Modding your car before taking full advantage and control over the stock form will result you in more headaches later on. You will be surprised how little you know when it comes to driving after you AutoX. Go to the Competition Forum and there will be more info there. |
