Mini calls out Porsche

Reading this article I could not stop thinking that's what civic owners do. Pick out cars that are more powerful hoping for the best. And when they reject the challange they keep talking. Its just funny. Here is the article.

I'm a die-hard porsche guy... Porsche all the way! :P

MyVtecGoesBWAH 16-Jun-2010 11:11 AM

lol porsche would destory mini ! gt3 rs ftw!!

D.T.P 16-Jun-2010 01:14 PM

^^ challange was never described so if its let's say load up some cargo get to point B, mini has a chance. I'm sure the cooper can fit more in the back than Porsche. It all depends on what Mini decides to do.

MPR 16-Jun-2010 02:41 PM

Yeah, it seems kinda silly. Why compare two cars that aren't meant to compete both on the track professionally and on the public market... And especially if it's some kind of special race like carrying cargo of some kind, I understand why porsche has declined the invitation.

If it's an actual real race, car vs car... let's compair specs: :)

The 2010 Mini Cooper S:

Curb weight: 2700lbs
Weight distribution (F/R): 61/39
Engine: 1.6L Inline 4cylinder with twin scroll turbocharger
HP: 172
TQ: 177
Power to weight: 0.063hp/lb.
Drive Layout: Front Engine, Front Wheel Drive
Base MSRP: Approx. $29,900

The 2010 Porsche 911 Carrera S:

Curb weight: 3200lbs
Weight distribution (F/R): 38.3/61.7
Engine: 3.8L Horizontally-Opposed 6cylinder, Naturally Aspirated
HP: 385
TQ: 310
Power to weight: 0.12hp/lb.
Drive Layout: Rear Engine Rear Wheel Drive
Base MSRP: Approx. $109,900

Just looking at the power to weight and that under braking the porsche has better weight distribution and under acceleration, nearly all the vehicle's weight is over the drive wheels.... the Porsche would kill the Mini, no question.

As expected, Porche won, hands down without breaking a sweat.

EXTREMELY short course favouring the Mini's ability to corner and the 911 still comes ahead with a 2-second lead after the first lap. Hahaha

last line was $38,000/sec or something like that... basically saying you're getting a car pretty close to the porsche for a lot less money... but on a short course like that all their really saying is you're getting a fraction of the porsche for the fraction of the money. not even close. a better comparison is the top gear ep with the jag xkr vs the db9 i think...

MPR 12-Aug-2010 04:09 PM

I'm not surprised who won. lol.

Yeah, the price difference doesn't justify the time difference on this particular track. But if I was offered either car, I'd take the porsche without hesitation.
