i know the numbers seem to point that directions, but you really have to drive the M6 for yourself in order to expirience it. suprisingly the 4cyl in the M6 still pushes you into your seat when you are flooring it and you go from 3rd to 2nd (tipronic) or 4th to 3rd gears (not as much, but still, the feeling of fast acceleration is there)

i drove my friend's 08 civic sedan, and its definitely missing that quick acceleration feeling i felt in the M6.

once again, like me and ForSale said before. its all about personal expirience.

@rick10, when are you going for the test drive??
let us know your opinion on both cars

What do you think I drive? I have 2 new Civics. You are giving the M6 side from a car in your family and/or that you have driven before. I'm giving the Civic side from owning and driving one everyday.

It sounds like the o/p's girlfriend only cares about looks anyway, so how the car drives doesn't really matter.

No major problems with any of the 3 that I've had. They always go to the dealer because they are new and under warranty. My 06 EX had a few things fixed under warranty (seat was loose, 2 recalls but neither effected the car, 1 strut mount replaced). The 06 Si had a motor mount replaced. The 07 Si has been perfect.

My only real complaint with any of them is that they all have minor creaks and rattles when its very cold out. They go away once the plastic warms up.

Yes, both are totally in a different class, but think of this, the civic is in the lower class but costs more, then a car that is higher in class and costs less, its not that the M6 is cheap or dosen't hold value, its honda, their prices are comming out the *** now. Even that "mohammad" guy on cp24 autotalk show, told a caller to go with a mazda 3, he said both the civic and mazda were basically equal in reliability but the mazda 3 is definatelly better and much more "APPEALING because of the price" he said "HONDA PRICES are overated now, too much"

good luck, get the mazda, your wife will thank you, my mom is really happy with her M6 she had a 2000 honda accord before.

and my mom baught the car herself, so yea, women do like the mazda 6.
AHHH your making fun of Probes I still own one and Love it alot ForSale lol

i know you drive civics, and i know you were giving info about civics from personal experiance, all i was saying just give that, don't say that the civic is better than the M6, i have driven both, but i was just mentioning the M6 as that is the car out of the two that we have.

unless you also have a m6 , then thats a different thing i suppose.

i actually like ford probes too, .lol i'm not one sided when it comes to cars, i like them all because they all have their traits.

btw rick10, i almost forgot, but have you watched any of those mazda commercials where you hear that distinctive mazda engine note, lol it will shock you it sounds the same in real life, punch it and it has that sick engine cam sound, and no it dosent sound like civic, oh btw mpfive, dude, i know this is jokes but when i went in my moms car the first 1 week i thought it was a V6 lol.

yea and the tiptronic on the M6 is not lazy, on the 2006 it shifts instantly.

hey and i don't want people to get the wrong idea i like civics, but im a guy, i'll always go for the sportier version, now if the civic was a 2006 si 2door coupe that would be different.

It sounds like they are sold on the Mazda anyway. Let's see what the o/p thinks after a test drive or two.

ugh...all you guys making the 4 cylinder automatic mazda 6 seem like a supercar...and mistaking it for a v6 even though apparently it has a 'sick 4 cylinder engine sound'? lol.

You guys are funny.

@forsale, i drove my neighbour's M6 wagon, that thing is fully loaded with a v6, right away you feel the difference in the engines.

i dunno about engine sound or making it sound like a ferrari, but from driving my parent's 6 and driving constantly my friend's 2008 civic (he drinks very often, thats why i drive his car) i would take the 6 over the civic.

i have yet to check out the civic Si, i'm sure that would be a whole different story

It has a very distinctive engine note on high revs.

it might just seem like a super car infront of a civic. :P

when i first drove it, in stock form i didn't expect a 4cyl to accel like it did, lol i never opened the hood, but few days later i did suspect it was 4cyl, because it shifted a certain way auto 4cyls shift, not as heavy or smooth as v6 auto's are.

yea, bro the new si would definately be yummy over the stock.

^^^hehehe i know eh,

and im surprised, i didn't think a mazda 6 being a family sedan could pull so hard on the toughest high speed track in the world.

one lap took him 9.23 minutes at speeds 130 to 200 plus at all times, pretty stable too.And the guy was driving excellent, really professional.

I can't see the vid because I'm stuck on dial-up for the moment.

Judging by the lap time you posted (9:23), I'm guessing it was a lap of the nurburgring in germany.

If so, I believe top gear put a heavy-*** diesel sedan around that track in under 9 mins. So the 4 cylinder mazda 6 is as fast as a diesel....

well i finally had the chance to test drive them both. I went to both dealers and this is what i think

honda

pros
great interior
decent acceleration (dxg model)
decent exterior
handles well

cons
visibility was not the best , however i m not use to the car
although accelaration is decent , the gas pedal as mentioned before is very sensitive
I dont like how the automatic stick is place , it looks kind of weird
no tiptronic

overall , great car , some minor cons , however its all about adjusting to enjoy this beatiful car

mazda 6

pros
being a 4 cylinder it has great accelaration , i can honestly say it fell much faster than the dx civic
engine has a great sound to it , at times i thought it was a 6 cylinder
decent interior
tiptronic is great , it really does make a difference
handling is great
exterior is decent

cons
insurance is higher than the civic
gas mileage is not as great as the civic
interior is ok however the civic feels much more nicer

overall , great car to drive , no many cons , although in the long term it may be more expensive than the civic

final thoughts

the mazda 6 is superior to the civic , it is in the ACCORD class (althought the accord is better IMO) , it felt so much faster and the handling was great, however like some people said it does feel like the power you get you may spend it in gas.

I still have to the the wife for a test drive once she gest her licensed but i did get an idea of what both cars have to offer

If so, I believe top gear put a heavy-*** diesel sedan around that track in under 9 mins. So the 4 cylinder mazda 6 is as fast as a diesel....

maybe you should see the video first before actually posting this ^^^ crap.

The video shows a normal guy, doing a track in 9.23 mins one try one lap. Which is very impressive for what it is.

the Top gear car was a twin turbo Jaguar-S D. with a professional driver with a time of 9.59, and that chick got a 9.12 sec one lap with the same car with one try, so its about experiance and NOT the car entirely. She has lapped that track more tha 50 thousand times.

the track requires a 70/60 ratio of a Good driver with experiance on that track to how powerful the car is.

4cyl,3056 or so lbs, 4 door saloon M6 on this track with a normal guy and stock car of 9.23 sec lap is really good.

The diesel Jaguar.

"The engine’s specifications make for impressive reading. The four-cam, 24-valve, twin-turbo V6 features the second generation common-rail direct injection and super-fast piezo-electric injector operation. Maximum power from the 2.7 litre engine is 206bhp putting the S-TYPE ahead of all but one of its directly comparable rivals. Torque peaks at a heady 320lb ft (435Nm) DIN, which is actually higher than that of the S-TYPE’s naturally aspirated 4.2 litre V8 petrol engine, yet the Diesel has 47 per cent better fuel consumption. More crucially still, 80 per cent of this torque is available from just 1500rev/min, all the way through to 4000rev/min."

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/jaguar/...l-ar17274.html

Top Gear video:

Listen to what he says at 1.57 " if you really know the track and you are a professional racing driver, and you have a ferrari enzo, you can get around here in about 8 minutes in one lap"

shows how much you know,"V-TEC" VROOM...lol, most fast cars are in the low 9's on this track, and super cars barely with good experiance and drivers get into the low 8 minutes.
