It looks like the MTO and police have gone too far.

It looks like the MTO and police have gone too far.

Recently received:

>>Yesterday at both sides to the entrance of the TMP, the OPP and the MTO had road blocks set up checking vehicles for Cats and any other non compliant modification. One kid got a $450 ticket for no cats and a $120 ticket for no seatbelt. He was wearing a 5 point harness but that isn't a legal seat belt.
They also had a set of portable scales to check trailers. Some guys just unhooked and left there trailers and cars there. By the time I left they had packed up.
Hated to miss the drag day but there was a lapping day at the TMP.

This is not going to stop and will only get worse unless we do something about it. We can. As long as we do it together.

My background is in politics, law and automotive. I may drive a different vehicle than you, but my enthusiasm comes from the same place. In the next few years, things are going to get worse before they get better. The local, provincial and federal Gov't is going to squeeze the life and enjoyment out of what we do.

We have the right for peaceful assembly.
We have the right of expression.
We have the right to challenge the Police and Provincial workers right to search our vehicles within reason.

We need to band together and develop a plan of response against this attack. I need your help. I need people to help me, research and promote our freedom. We need to lobby Gov't to prevent this invasion of privacy. It can be done. Its not hard.

I have a vision of a huge crowd of people in Ottawa, and around our cities promoting ourselves as safe, courteous and energetic sane people. We will hit the media, we will hit the Gov't bodies... we will make it know we will NOT stand for this.

We will also have our Constitutional Freedoms on our side.

I need your help to accomplish this.

I am toying with huge certified public demonstrations, peaceful demonstrations everywhere. They will think twice before pulling us over and searching our vehicles.

They cannot do this without reasonable grounds. A body kit and paint with big wheels is NOT reasonable grounds to delay us for 2 hours looking for a non existent N20 bottle, or giving us some BS ticket for a cold air intake.

I need to know your interest in fighting this... and fighting for your freedoms.

Its not my intention to come across as a fanatic... I'm just thinking closely about where this could potentially could go. Its frightening.

I need your thoughts and an idea of the level of interest in this.

PASS THIS ON!

Makes you wonder.....If you go to the track you are guarenteed to get pegged so why not street race instead... I am not saying that I condone street racing .. It's just P.A.C.E.R and E.R.A.S.E want you to keep it off the streets and take it to the track. nd then they ticket you and hold you for taking it to the track. It really doesn't make any sense at all

whats TMP???

I've never had an issue at solo 2 competitions .... other then the one corvette event where police were handing out fliers ...however that didn't cause much trouble

that's really stupid, it's true they are taking it too far, there are other more pressing issues in our society and we're spending our tax dollars on the stupidest non consequential ones...

Um...I'm I the only one that thinks there is nothing wrong with the above situation.

So the short story is: Guy has illegal mods on his car. Get's busted. Get's tickets.

What's the problem. This guy knew full well that removing his cat was against the law, yet he did it and got caught.

In my books I don't cosider him a victim.

Happy,

I think the point is, Cops say keep it off the street, go to the track. then wait at the track entrance to nab everyone taking it off the street .... while I totally agree with you that yes you should not have illegal mods, it looks like in this case the cops are using one hand (PACER) to direct everyone into the other hand (ERASER). If cops want the racing off the street then they should quit hanging out at the track one makes people nervous about going there and 2 makes it look like tehre is a barrier you have to climb to get there ... most of the street racers are like electricity, electricity follows the paths of least resistance to it's goal, well the street racers will follow the path of least resistance to accomplish their goal of racing if that means on the street becuase going to the track means your going to get nabbed then thats where they will do it.

Personally I also believe cops are now hanging out at tracks to Nab people because there is less and less (if any) organized street racing where they can nab everyone all at once ... those events must have been cash cows for them.

No cat is illegal, and 5 point harness, well, that's for racing, and you ain't racing on the street.

These are just common senses. They seem fine to me.

if the car is a track car..... don't drive it on the street

the OPP and the MTO had road blocks set up checking vehicles for Cats and any other non compliant modification
we all know that no cat is ilegal...so if this guy got busted on the street it's his own fault...

sorry....there are plenty of ways to make your car fast legaly...and if you're gonna drive your 'ilegaly modified car' on the streets... expect tickets

A few of us got stopped on Sunday by the MTO right before Cayuga. This cracking down on performance cars is getting a little out of hand:fustrated

Well I want to know exactly what mods are legal and what mods are not... Obiously no cat is illegal .. I didn't think having a cold air intake was illegal but from reading above it would seem to be... Is there anything that anyone knows of that documents what can and cannot be done?

That my friends is the problem.

They have NOT defined what the legalities of performance mods are. They are testing out the waters with us and the tickets. Hows an EPA ticket for a fine equal to dangerous driving, because the cop says you have a cold air intake, and isn't class A licensed or licensed to run emissions tests. How is he in a position to make that determination?

Its because we have not shown we are going to stand up, and refuse to let the law be defined by our tickets that we get.

I certainly don't want to be part of a society that governs that way.

Thanks for all your replies... we can show them, we will not stand for this. In the coming weeks I'll be doing research into getting onto the media, and getting a "LARGE" public gathering place so we can all discuss and bring the media out to show them whats what.

Maybe a large car show.... that may be a good idea... yes... a large car show (Dark Knights?), and then bring out the media and I will tour them around and we can discuss..... the media will be all over this....

So I've contacted some media outlets. How do people feel about this PRELIMINARY and very rough plan.

Take a large car show this year (dark knights).

Have a media walk through profiling the scene, and having discussions with the owners (license plates off because the insurance company would take this opportunity to capitalize on their loses and cancel insurance), and "clear the air" as to who we are and what we do.

We will also have a media walk-through discussing topics and the recent rash of unreasonable searches of vehicles based on very little.

We will be mature, well thought out, well spoken and well represented....

... this is a rough idea, but would challenge the perception of the general public. I'd also like to have a pow-wow with the local police boards, and discuss our position as mature adults and find out where their position is. I do not want this to turn into us facing the police head to head, but to understand each other....

Regardless whether or not people have illegal mods or not.
It's a nuisance.

The fact remains that they are setting up traps near tracks and even SOLO events!?!?! WTF!?! Are they stupid!?

This will just force people to race on the streets, I think whoever the contact person for P.A.C.E.R and E.R.A.S.E in each car club needs to bring this to their attention. Whether they do anything about is a different story.

Cops need the pay raise and the only way to get it is to generate more income for the government by writing BS tickets b/c arresting criminals won't make money for them...Those cops who pull ANYONE modded over maybe feels like they're in Fast & Furious and at the end of the day they go home and tell the wife & kids about the done up Civic they pulled over...and how it was so dangerous...LOL!

About the cruise on the Highway...I'm up for that! We can just do the limit (90km) HAHA!! There'll be enough of us to block it up!

just be careful about the media idea, you never know what kind of spin they'll put on it... think about what you'll say very carefully
it sounds like a good opportunity though

Cosmic Girl they have only been at one solo 2 event and it wasn't a trap it was more or less handing out PACER fliers which told us what lights we could or could not have on our cars which is very very very funny because you never see extra lights on a solo 2 car ...

anyways I agree if they want us to go somewhere they should avoid going to that place too
