how good are the dealerships at cutting keys by the VIN number? is it worth the $10-15 bucks to have it done?

my key is so warn down that it falls out of the ignition while driving..

i just got one cut today and works mint, paid $10 and they will cut it from ur vin as long ur locks were never changed before, or u can take one lock out and there is a 4 digit key # give them that and they will cut it.

any honda/acura dealer will do it for you, just go in with the ownership, they will look up the code, and have it cut to the stock pattern...

its like $8 or something (or at least the last time I had it done)

will they be able to cut me a new one using the blank? Its an 02 civic so is it just a straight cut or they have to put the chip on the key too?
