Just a quick question, and some answers
In case some of you hadn't noticed, I don't usually post on here a whole lot. I do lurk, but rarely post.
Here is my question. Upon browsing the classisfied forum, I noticed a certain person looking for a filter on a stick (Short ram intake) someone told said person to look into an AEM CAI. Myself I thought that, this was a great response. CAI makes much more sense. Then the original poster said that he already had a CAI. But he drove his car all winter. So then I got totally confused. Why on earth do people take a CAI off for the winter?? I have an AEM CAI on my EJ coupe, and drive it 365 days of the year, with the CAI on. I drive my car in snow, rain, and sunshine with the same intake on. Granted you tend to be a little more careful in really deep puddles, but my lord. the filter needs to be completely submerged before it'll suck enough water up to hydraulic the motor. Can anyone shed any light on this topic for me? I'd hate to see this poor guy spend money he doesn't need to on something he doesn't need.

Clayton..
guess he should have investigated things more..
that's what the performance section is for, asking and answering questions about that kinda shyt..
if he ignores the resources available he takes his own route..
but to answer your question...have i run cai thru the winter?? hell ya, like you pointed out the only time you have to worry is if you're using it like a straw..

Clayton, I happen to be the one asking for the short ram, for the winter, reason being, I commute daily and sometimes the highways are so bad that there is still inches left in the lanes, albeit you may never had a problem, I'm a lil more apprehensive... also, my front right wheel well cover was damaged and there is a hole that would allows water into the area where the CAI intake sits... sure, I could fix that, but, you know, I haven't, actually I have but it keeps opening up again... it's saturday morning, and my GF is sleeping so I feel like writing a novella... maybe I should fix it, and get a CAI, but if I do, and something does go wrong, will you pay my repair costs???

Gleason, I realise that you were the one who asked about the SRI, but I don't like pointing fingers at people. I still maintain my stand point, Obviously I don't want to pay your repair costs, but you also need to realise that you aren't going to have any (providing you don't hit anything). I drove most of last winter with no inner fender on my car at all. i suppose I can see your apprehension, but please realise that most of your apprehension is based on propoganda from companies like AEM convincing you that you might hydraulic your car with out their spiffy special bypass valve.
On a small side nite, I noticed that you already have a CAI, why not save the $$ of buying a complete short ram, and take your CAI off, and cut it? Get yourself a hose connector for a turbo setup, and you'll have saved yourself some $$. Maybe I'm just too damn cheap, but you don't need to buy a whole new intake. You can cut your AEM, and then in spring add the connector, and the piece you cut off as an extension, and achieve the same goal.
