Just got a 93 civic hatch (but don't know what to do with it)

Ok, I really haven't posted here much because I've owned a Toyota, but now that I just got a civic, I need help. Please!

I just received a 93 hatch from a relative at no cost, and I want to fix this up a bit since it's mine now. It's an automatic dx hatch, and the downside is that it's got the typical quarter panel rust...

What I would like to do is, make it somewhat fast, fix up the body, and keep it as a sleeper. Is it worth it to take this automatic car, switch it to a b18c1 with a standard tranny, and fix up the body? I've no experience working on a honda personally, so I don't know what crazy costs or issues I might end up with.

It would be really helpful to get some suggestions about what I can do with this civic.. and to know if this would be worth it or not.. I'm looking for the best cost effective things I can do.

Thanks for reading!

get the car, rip out the motor with the auto tranny. get a b18b1 with a b16 transmission. slap that in with the shifter linkage, pedal assembly etc, keep it rusty. then turbo that and call it a day ;)

It'd be worth it if you did some of the work yourself. The Swap isnt hard at all.

Something I'd love to do to a civic is convert to rwd (the way it should always have been ;)).

I know it's been done before, but only a handfull. Would be an interesting project.

For you, sounds like an engine/tranny swap, brakes, suspension, and tire upgrade would do the trick.

And yeah, keep it rusty! :)

ewww, auto to 5spd swap, yuck....you'll have lots of fun with that one. Its not THAT hard, but hard enough if you aren't very mechanically inclined.

A b18c1 swap can be had nowadays for $2500-3000 and you'll only need a handful of other parts to convert to 5spd, which you can grab from either a junkyard or off someone on the boards for pretty cheap.
