Just as a discussion ..
what does everyone think about P.A.C.E.R?
here are the goals of pacer..
As our site is mainly composed of enthusiasts who modify our cars, do you think that pacer is acheiving their goal? I'm mainly referring to the points 1, 3, 5, and 7.
We've all seen stupid drivers pulling crazy stunts on the road, and from all the threads that appear on our forums, it's quite obvious that a positive relationship in most cases has not been created through our law enforcement bodies. Point 5 takes the cake and we've seen what Darknights was like last year (even with P.A.C.E.R attending the show)...
So what do you all think? I think the program is an excellent idea, but I'd like to see it actually work on our behalf.
here are the goals of pacer..
1.Increase public awareness of the issues of aggressive driving and illegal street racing.
2.Promote the need for all citizens to drive their vehicles safely and responsibly.
3.Foster positive relationships between Law Enforcement bodies and performance enthusiasts across Canada.
4.Bring driver education to schools to talk to students about the dangers and consequences of illegal street racing and aggressive driving behaviours.
5.Promote the participation of police agencies at community events that involve modified vehicles.
6.Encourage performance enthusiasts to take illegal street racing to the racetrack.
7.Work with law enforcement agencies to develop a uniform code of acceptable vehicle modifications, and educate performance enthusiasts regarding this code to encourage compliance. Work closely with the judicial system to implement new programs, aiming to rehabilitate repeat offenders involving speed, reckless driving and other dangerous driving offences.

I've had relitivley no problems with the police except for stuff I deserved and even when I was pulled over and ticketed for "modifications" that were illegal I asked the officers about them and they were rather helpful with telling me what they look for and deem not to be proper etc. and even for the tickets they advised me to fix the problem, take it to court and deal with it in that matter
I personally feel the police in general are doing a good job at what they are supposed to do, people complain about tickets and stuff but 90% of the time the ticket is valid and the officer has reason to give the ticket.
Loud exhaust, alot of people's exhaust systems are super loud even though they dont think so
Coloured lights, well its in the HTA and the package of the bulb itself says "for off road use only"
breather filters, defeating the emmissions system...blatent disregard for the emmissions act etc.
too low, well when u cant turn your wheels lock to lock without rubbing thats just not safe
tire wear indicators showing, another unsafe thing that usually follows from being too low
Speeding, well thats self explanitory...u got caught, deal with it
these are some of the tickets people get laced with and most are deserving...do they single out import/compact drivers? yea but thats cuz heck they are the most common culprits
I have no beef with the police...the program seems to be working, as long as people follow the rules of the road and have a safe, clean vehicle

From what I've seen so far, PACER seems to be a cool program. It shows enthusiasts that police aren't "out to get them" but they are trying to keep things legal and safe.
I agree with Cynikal, 99.9% of tickets being given out are legit...but I think you see people with modified cars getting pulled over more often because they draw more attention to themselves.

Sure, the idea is great... but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The harrassment many endured at Darknights last year is horrendous. Not to mention the profiling some members of a Subaru convoy suffered on the way to the tall pines rally last fall. If you don't recall or never heard a group of Subaru Club members were convoying to the event and were all pulled over and charged with street racing because they have hood scoops and spoilers. I agree that the unsafe cars should be off the road but this, and the insurance crap that is going on right now has to stop.
It's just a case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing.

Yeah, the guys were all pulled over and the cop actually put in the report that the cars had spoilers, hood scoops and foglights for racing... for one, all those things are stock on most Subarus, and two, if you want to set that precedent I've got a dick so you might as well charge me for rape right now, I have the right equipment.
