Insurance on 2010 si

hey, im looking to purchase a new 2010 si...coupe or sedan still deciding...i just called up my insurance company to get a quote and just wanted to compare with the rest of you who may have the same or similar car.

-23 years old in dec 2010
-Asian male living in toronto
-No accidents/tickets
-Driving for 6 years now
-Not married living at home

They quoted me with driving school certificate and steer clear discount $350 a month for the coupe & $315 a month for the sedan.

I find it a bit expensive and was wondering what you are paying and if you have any suggestions on other insurance companies i can try.

hmm for a 2010 at age 23, i'd say that is an ok rate, i mean its not the best, but its not like some of the other guys paying 400 a month for an old 89civic

That's a reasonable price I'd say. I got quoted $350 for the 2010 Si Sedan.

LOL. I pay under $300 for my 07 Si, my 07 Mini Cooper and my house insurance. But, Im over 30, married and I live outside the GTA.

Under 25, male and living in the GTA, I would expect rates to be high for an Si.

^ yes, the smaller companies usually end up giving you the best rates if you live in the city. Im 20 almost 21, drive a 97 civic hatchback, clean record, and paying $260/month. I have my G also.

Its a shame to see how mislead people are by insurance companies.

There is nothing wrong with going to a broker to insure your automobile, however, if your purpose is to go out and find the cheapest insurance possible, then you should really reconsider the car you are buying.

the purpose of insurance is to give you a piece of mind that while you are driving on the road and if anything were to happen, everything will be ok.

All these 'small time companies' you speak off are not the best companies to go with. They don't have the income to support their company and they do end up closing. It happens so often. Maybe you aren't aware or have yet to come across the problem of your insurance company going brankupt but it does happen.

Being insured with TD, Allstate, State Farm, Intact, RBC, etc. Is your ultimate best choice. These insurance companies aren't going anywhere... at least for a long time.

The longer you are with an insurance company, you develop loyality discounts, along with many other perks... you don't get this from these "small time companies"

Do you know what its like to get into an accident and call up your insurance company because you know need 3 months off work and they cannot provide you with the coverage you thought you had. When you pay less, you get less. It really is as simple as that.

These large companies that "rape" you... well they are the ones who give you the best possible customer service, they have been around the longest, they have the best coverage. They have the 24hr phone lines that you can call in case of emergency....

But I guess, your life isn't worth the money? If something were to happen to you, your loved ones weren't worth the extra few bucks a month?

Such a shame this is how people think

You have a valid point however before you go on an all out attack on me take into account I work for one of the largest insurance companies in canada and I have both experiences you speak of. doing research and not going with the first low price you get...some of these small time companys also endure and survive to offer the same discount sometimes at an even better rate than the larger companies.

IF is a strong word and yes my life is worth money but when money is so hard to come by exercising abit of common sense instead of simply paying just because of a name doesn't mean you are better off..

Loyalty to a large company like the one i work for doesn't come over 1/2 years and hearing the same name as an agent is a rarity as faces here change so often i don't bother to keep track...so thats one of this discount that comes on a whim...

Please keep in mind i'm not disputing your logic.. to each there own but my original quote on a 240sx was $618/mo when i was 21 with a clean record and driving a few years...if that isn't "rape" then i don't know what is...$618 to drive a car...really?..oh yeah and i work for them....

Cool... I work for State Farm and I wasn't attacking you But using the word “rape” is what people pick up on. People don't understand why insurance costs what it does is my point.

Driving a sports car, a highly stolen vehicle, etc. when you are 21.... well don't expect much. Young drivers have NO driver experience… get over it people YOU will cost a lot! So budget properly and you will get the car you want and in time you will see your rate drop

At 21 and a clean record my 2005 RSX cost $280... is it unreasonable, well no BUT I do understand because money is money and $280 when your young and just finished school, most people don't have the money so YES I "agree" with you. However, I think you’re missing my point. And coming from someone who works for an insurance company I would have expected a little bit more for defending them and educating people on why costs are what they are and how prices are calculated.

Back to what the thread starter originally wanted, it’s a civic, he’s a male and he’s young. The price he got is very understandable.

Different territories have different ratings. For example, this is for the thread starter. Let’s say your postal code begins with M2J, State Farm will have one rating for this territory whereas TD will have a completely different rating for the same territory. Point being, you need to shop around. All insurance companies rate differently for different age groups, vehicles, territories… it’s all based on their loss history and every insurance company experiences different things.

Loyalty discounts... they are there and they can be easily obtained. I never once said they come after staying with an insurance company for 1/2 year... anyways. Point being, having an agent who truly cares about you (and they are out there, I work for one and I am one) we do everything in our power to make sure our clients are happy with us at the end of the day. We make exceptions for people who wouldn't be able to get it at any other company. There is a lot that can be done. When looking at peoples policies with my office its amazing to see what people are paying after being with us for 10 years.... and 10 years is not a long time. But I don't have to explain that to you because you work for insurance right.

No matter where you look, insurance is going to be expensive for a young driver on a new vehicle.
