Installed intake today
I just finished installing my intake today, and I think I can answer the question of what is better; generic or name brand. I bought a generic short ram intake made by HP Racing Motorsports for $80, and a Ractive filter for $35. However, I spent about $10 at Crappy Tire for hardware that didn't come with the intake, or that didn't fit properly. The adaptor to fit the air sensor into the intake was too big, the bracket to hold the intake in place wasn't the right shape, and it didn't come with enough clamps. I got everything together after about an hour. It looks good, sounds nice, maybe feels a little faster, and was probably worth the $125 I spent. Last week I helped a friend install an AEM SRI on his 93 SI. It took about 20 minutes. It came with all the parts, instructions, and it fit perfectly. It looks alot nicer, but sounds and performs the about the same, and it cost him about $300. So I think that the big difference is fit and finish. Maybe companies like AEM spend more money on engineering, and thats why their products are placed at such higher price points. One good thing about mine is that I can buy and extension to make it a cold air for $40. Just though I'd share my experiences with anyone considering buying an intake.

That's the prob. I would if I didn't have this 21-401 cold air intake here from them.
I'm exchanging it, needless to say I won't be doing any business with them in the future.
Unless they start selling Mugen parts for 1/2 price!

I did plenty of research, and I really doubt that a cold air really makes that much more power. A few horses at best. Not enough that you would notice. Easier to install, because I don't plan on keeping the car for too much longer. I found a 2000 SiR for a good price, so I think I'm going to trade the Si in. How do you like yours? Besides, I can always get the cold air extension.

Its a 2000 SiR, with only 25000kms, VSM, loaded except for fogs and rear underlip, for only $20995 from a Honda dealer. I don't really want to trade my Si in because they will only give me $12000 for it, eventhough it has low k, and in mint condition. Oh well, the sacrifice for the SIR.
