Importing a 350z very soon... need some advice on importing.
Yup I'm leaving the civic scene. The cars for sale guys if anyone wants it hit me up with a pm. Anyways im importing an '07 350z very soon and wondering if anyone has any good advice on importing cars from the states.
I know I need the recall letter and all that other stuff....
But how does warranty work for example, will it still be covered...Will I have to drive down to buffalo if I wanna use the warranty because somethings wrong? Can I purchase a canadian warranty?
Ahh it's all so confusing lol, can anyone give me any good advice on the whole procedure and what to especially watch for. Any hidden things that I should watch out for not to have problems...fill me in guys.
Yes I searched google and am pretty familiar with the whole procedure, recall letter, customs and all, just wondering if anyone done it here, and if they came upon any unexpected problems...

The 350z is actually a gift for uni.
I just gotta find out how the whole process of importing goes and what to look for and everything.

Here's a page with a step to step guide, with good info on everything you need to know.
http://www.importcartocanada.info/
You'll save money by importing, but no warranty though. Just realize that you are not going to save as much as you probably think. You have factor in all the taxes. Since the 350z is not made in North America, you have to pay additional taxes too. You'll still come on top though.
I'm looking to import an s2000 either this year or next (most likely next year). Let us know how the procedure goes.

Warranty isn't transferred... better to get a G35. The 350Z costs $28110 + 6.1% Duties + 13% Taxes + 225 RIV Fees + 200 A/C + Trip to X Dealer and Gas to Drive from X Dealer. So roughly 34500, then maybe 3K for third party warranty?

I've already called many dealerships around illinois that have some good deals on what I'm looking for and their all around > 1000 miles and you can import them.
I hate the front end of the G35 ... Yuck
Only thing Ill really have to worry about is gas, other then that, nothing really. If I get a warranty I'll be set , But I still haven't found out how much that costs in Canada, Ima make some calls soon.

^^^ no its not, I know I worked in a car dealership for 2 years.
It seems like you are buying brand new, you should buy it from Canada. Some cars are the same some are not, cars that come into Canada have special fitted gas tank heaters that are not present in US cars bought from states that never see anything colder than +1 degrees, so you'll have fuel injection problems all the time in cold weather.
Im in the business field, and from my experience, you NEVER save on one product, you only save if you purchase a BACTH of products, your looking at the initial purchase price, by the time you pay all, taxes, transfer, registration, recall, and the other expenses you'll have bought a car with few hundred dollars difference, if what you were saying was true the Canadian dealerships would go out of business, but they don't because in such situations the Canadian Dealerships give much more incentives, and also match and reduce prices they also give rebate and cash backs low purchase financing and so on. I don't work for a dealership now, now I work in a bank, so im just letting you know what I know from experience and not trying to sell you are car hehehe, what people tell you is crap, especially for NEW cars. Recently some cars were found to have been new cars that drowned in the New Orleans disaster, fully rebuilt sold to Canadians.
I rather buy something cheaper here with a peace of mind. Unless you are buying the 2008 350Z, buy the 2006 or 2005 from Canada, they are all the same mechanically, I owned a 2004 350Z and it was powerful enough for me, and it will be too much for you to handle going from a 150hp car to 300hp anyways, so no excuses there. Even if you are the world’s best driver, what im saying is that it will be a lot of fun; you won’t hate it but still going from less than 200hp to 300hp plus is sometimes a pain in the ***. I have owned Honda’s and Nissans all my life, and trust me dude owning a 350z is NOT cheap, parts are damm expensive, you will be paying 300 on insurance, that is if you are 25 years old and have a good record, oil changes are better with synthetic for that car, and gas is not cheap, if you though the Honda was expensive to mod, Nissans are even harder, specially cars like 350Z, you can't just slap on cheap knock off rims, the Nissan guys will laugh at a person, but also because the 350z requires parts that are top of the line or real good because those cars are built 3 times more powerful then regular cars in terms of performance, heck some come stock with BREMBO callipers and brake kits.
your still a honda person, nissan drivers don't go by looks but performance, one word of advice if you join a nissan club after getting the Z don't hate on any nissans/infinity looks, people get real **** about it or i should say nissan/infinity owners, BTW the G35 is better than the 350Z , the G35 is the JDM skyline, but called the G35 in north america.
my cousin got the G37,,,, pure sex, i went from looking at a 350 to a G37.
I really am tired of civics, even though I only owned one. Want something different for a change.

Good luck bro, and yea from what you said "i really am tired of civics" i think you race a lot and got owned many times.lol so you decided to go faster with a 350z, or maybe youre just like me a speed junky/;p.
are your parents going to pay for the cost of maintaning the car?

Im gonna be getting used... Around 1000miles - 6000miles on it I guess...
2007 Touring.
I looked at used prices here in Canada, and compared to the ones in the States and its much cheaper, even after all the recall, taxes, and all that. My Uncle lives in Chicago so he can drive it down for me and take a plane back or something like that, still gotta figure that part out, hes gonna take a look at the car, test drive it there and all that, hes a real intense auto guy lol.
Yeah the power difference is alot, but Im used to it, family got alot of weird cars, driven alot of em.
I dont think Im gonna go new though because, the price is pretty big on a new 350z.
I want a 2007 used one.
They changed alot that year from the previous models 2003-2006. Added the VQ35HR over the old VQ35DE...which is I think 306hp now, over the 287hp previously.
About modding it, yeah I Know what you mean.
Im planning to keep this car completely stock, other then Rims, and a Nice Big Brake kit (Im not getting the grand touring or nismo) So it wont come with the brembos. Im getting the touring one. And well thats about it, its staying stock after that.
These are the rims Id really like to get for the 350Z
19Inch Volk TE-37 ...
and that will be it for modding. Not going down the same path I did with the civic.
About maintenance, Only thing Im worried about is GAS. Thats gonna be a bitch to pay probably. But oh well. Insurance I dont pay so I'm lucky in that department. I'd probably be paying around 500+ a month on it since Im only 19, but I got hookups for that.
you have your taste dude, but don't hate on g35's lol looks only get you so far.

^^, hey man looks like you got your head on straight, im sure you won't have a problem with this car, and yes, 90% of us when we had the 350z's we just added aftermarket rims and the rest was bolt ons and it was enough, but yea there are those older baller guys.lol
i though you were buying new, but yea if you're getting one up to 6k's should get an almost new whip, if you have family there who will check out the car before the purchase, then yea that shouldn't be a problem, hey if your uncle can, ask him to go to texas, its the cheapest place to buy cars and pretty much anything else, im talking about saving like 4 to 5 thousand dollars compared to any other state.
good luck, have fun.
btw respect, on the Volks Te- rims choice, those are top of the line, real hardcore performace rims.
