im currently an apprentice and I did push the broom around for about 6-7 months until i got a bay (beacuse 1 tech left) so i got lucky. dont forget when u first start.. dont expect much... U are the ***** in the beginning U mite push the broom. thats for every place you go to, but anyways, i waited just over a year to go to school and to get into the autobody at cenntennial you will be waiting longer because not many students are joining autobody repair. IMO dont go looking strickly for a custom bodyshop... look for any bodyshop to get you started and then move on to a custom shop Only becuase that mite be harder. and best of luck

So many people thing that apprentices just push a broom around and do ***** work, thats not ****ing true. I just finished my second week as an apprentice and I do enough ****. **** I don't mind pushing a broom cause everyone that starts off will do it and if you love to work on cars enough then you will do anything you are told to become a technician.

man, if you're dumb/stubborn/dedicated enough (whatever you want to call it) to want to be in the auto service industry then you deserve what you get.
Just keep in mind, like someone else already mentioned, you're starting at the bottom, so don't expect to be doing clutch jobs/engine building/custom body kits/lots of custom work/etc etc.
Been there done that, hated it, now i'm out.
I did all sorts of stuff (swaps/clutch jobs/diagnostics/warranty work/etc etc), its true, you don't only push a broom, but **** rolls downhill, so don't be surprised when you get all the crap jobs. And when there is nothing left to do, you gotta make yourself look busy (i.e push a broom/clean the shop) b.c when you get paid hourly (unlike the licensed techs who get paid per job) your boss won't want to pay you to stand around and do nothing (like the licensed guys like to do), so he'll either just send you home (and you won't get your 40 hours a week and it will take forever to accumulate your hours) or let you go b/c you're not willing to do whatever it takes to keep your job.

What zeeman just said it so true
my buddie just got signed at honda hes on his 3rd day of his apprenticeship and hasnt touched a car hes been putting up shelves in the tool room,
just because there is no work so they want to justify paying him to be there so he has to do work around the shop, so far hes hating it and cursing them out but when it gets busy he will have actual work to do
