Depends on the quality of the paint job. A reputable shop will probably charge (street price) several hundred to repaint the hatch.

It sounds like a decent deal. Not the greatest but not the worst. If you know someone who can paint parts for you at a good price, just pick it up in primer condition. That should mean it's already had all the dents hammered or bondo-ed out.

that's not a bad deal at all. $200 for a painted anything is a good deal if the paint looks good.

$75 at the wreckers is an absolute steal if it's the colour and condition that you want it in.

If you luck out at the wreckers then you're golden, otherwise, 2 bills is not bad if the quality is good.

I would wonder why that hatch has primmer on it.

Think about it, why would someone take the time to do that to a hatch, and then sell it?

I would take a guess that he's trying to cover up something....ie....rust or holes. I have yet to see someone prime a GOOD condition hatch. (they ussually do that to a BAD condition one).

Go to the wrecker, and get one from there.

I agree...if someone were to take a perfectly good hatch and paint it primer they are dumb...lol...there must have been some work done to it...ie: lots-o-body filler. I wouldn't risk it..but, if you have your heart set on it, take a magnet to the surface and see if it attaches in certain places...then you'll see if it's been worked on or not.

oh, btw, the magnet must be relatively weak...the amount of attraction to the metal determines if it's metal or putty under the primer...thought I'd clear that up a bit.

Cheers,
Buddah.
