How to tell if car is running good?

hey, i m buying a new car, a type-r. I was wondering. what do i look for to see if this owner has ripped his car. As in if he was to race and speed and all that, doing more work to his car. What parts will start to wear out or get weaken? what would need replacing if he was a racer?
