the lines are really blurry...

either way, I would never call the mazda 3 a wagon.....

but again, the lines are blurry....

either way, the mazdaspeed3 is pretty nice

well, the magnum is super long compared to the mazda 3... as follows:

Dodge Magnum
Curb Weight : 4142-4336 lbs
Overall length : 5,022 mm

Mazdaspeed 3
Curb Weight : 2826-2857 lbs
Overall length : 4,485 mm

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That's already over a 50cm difference.... not to mention its almost half the weight!!!

So by that logic a five door Toyota echo hatchback is a station wagon? lol ok. Clearly the length of the chasis plays a role.

And if the numbers are SAE, how are they overrated by Mazda?

I think he was referring to the fact that the numbers such as 0-100km/hr times and 1/4 times are exaggerated by the manufacturer... I have heard rumours of mazdas zero gravity test track... i assume that's how they got the numbers for the slow *** mazdaspeed protege that I am glad I never ever looked twice at... waste of the mazdaspeed name IMO... 170hp with a snail??? more like 260hp to me... plus, I don't know if the protege ever had an LSD... but, still this boost limiting in first, second gear is pretty gay and limiting boost while turning... so, if you take a hard corner, I wonder if your blow of valve will pop... ... take that subarus!!! we lose boost on corners!!!!! hahahah!

well, civics own... quick fact...

my EK... 1996 Honda Civic Hatbcack (k24/20 vtec 20.8:1 compression jks [those of you that read that other yahoos post will understand this one)
Curb Weight: 2213 lbs (Including full tank of rocket fuel)

Mazdaspeed 3
Curb Weight: 3157 (I stand corrected... previous numbers were from the reg Mazda 3)

And just for pure laughs and the purpose of me restating the weight...

Trojan (*Ahem... i mean Dodge) Magnum
Curb Weight: 4336 lbs

Hahahhaa, thats like 2000lbs difference... I could fit my whole crew in my civic like every other Mississauga gangster and still weight less than one of those...

GO Civics!!!!!!

I was being sarcastic. Mazda puts a decent powertrain with gobs of torque in a hatch/wagon thing. Sure its a sleeper and insurance will be cheap, but you'll probably see more Soccer Moms driving them then young, single guys. I see more women driving the Mazda3's then men.

I guy I work with is actully looking for a Mazda3>he's an outdorrs guy and needssomething with some rrom but without the high cost of an SUV. Its perfect for that.

1/4 mile time of 14.6 with a turbo 2.3l at 15 psi is not impressive at all, the power numbers look good but the times it produces are weaksauce. The civic si is only .5 second slower in the 1/4 mile, with a smaller 2.0l na motor... Mazda's engineering will just never be up to par with honda and nor will their sales. The speed3 is still a cool car out of the box and at a decent price, but it's still Honda FTW in the end (as it will be for a long time to come).

Stopped by a mazda dealership to check one of these out and still ugly as sin IMO. Dash is the same as the reg mazda 3s so cheap. mechanic saw me checking out the car and told me he would rather my si over the MS3 without regret (BTW he test drove the MS3) but as for speed ya the MS3 will own the Si but remember thats NA vs. FI. As for handling i think the Si would own the MS3.

well, to be honest... i think the mazda 3 might not be the greatest in handling, but that is nothinig that some good shocks and some race springs couldn't fix!!! they both have LSDs too!!!
