How to get an automotive part-time job at young age? Help!
I have very great amount of interest in vehicles especially imports. My dad own's a 2002 Honda CR-V EX, it uses a similar engine as the Acura RSX Base Model which is the K series engine with 2.4L i-VTEC power. I am 15 although I have 7 more months till I get my G1 doesn't mean I can't drive the vehicle I have previous driving experience, drove for 15 minutes around the bloack at night in my cousin's 1992 Honda Civic LX, on passenger side steer for a little while on my other cousin's 2002 Honda Civic LX-G Sport, I had to move up a parking spot when my uncle was not there to avoid a parking ticket :working: in a 2002 Toyota Highlander and backed out of the garage and align the vehicle straightly on the driveway in my dad's 2002 Honda CR-V.
I start school in two weeks, I start training at McDonald on tuesday in Maple (Wonderland) while I live in the Pacific Mall Area, great convience. I would like to further learn more about cars and plan to be a mechanic (I love hand's on project, dealing with anything hands on). I would like to start early, any tips on looking for a job in the automotive field or connections? If I am interested, I am very eager to work. I have 5 months of CSR/Technical Support, 2 months of Telemarketing and thats it. I really don't mind changing the tires or oil , any basic job, don't even mind minimum wage. I just want to learn and train. Help?

Does your school offer a cooperative education program or co-op?
That's the way I started. While I was attending St. Robert C.H.S in Thornhill.
I asked for a placement at Richmond Hill Honda as an apprentice mechanic. Did that for the year then they hired me for the summer.
Ended up in the parts department and worked there for 4 years.
Had a stint w/ Avante Mazda and now I work in an aftermarket auto parts store in Scarboro.

I'll try to find out when I go back in 2 weeks. I remember hearing co-op signups for Grade 11 or 12s. You sign up in Grade 10. Darn... so this is how I'm goign to do it. Can anyone give me good lines to say to make it sound better.
Hello may I speak to the manager please...
I have very great interest in automotives and I would like to volounteer my hours to help in your shop to gain experience. Here is my resume and I have a very nice customer relations and technical support experience. I do not mind doing the most basic job?
Will that work, I need some good lines :working:

I would ask to speak to the service/parts manager and present them with a proposal. Tell them that you're in the program and would like to experience the automotive business through parts/service.
The bonus for the dealer is that they get free labour. They don't pay you unless they want to. I know of two Honda dealerships that have had co-op students. Sisley Honda and Richmond Hill Honda.
I don't have any good lines to tell ya just hand in a resume. The co-op teacher does the rest.

Thats 1 thing I regret. Not taking an auto-shop class in high school.
Anyways see about co-op or ask around here on the boards.
I'm sure someone on here wouldn't mind having some help for engine help.
(I'm doing a ZC swap in the coming months, and I need a hoist) hint hint
Anyways good luck man!

Well unfortunately I'm not strong enough to tear out my engine with my bear hands, let alone drop in the new engine.
For that reason I need a hoist.
I would much rather attempt the swap myself though, but I don't have the tools.

Disregard my post then SilverCRXSi
...unless of course, you can find a cheaper rental rate.

My local mechanic said they'd charge me $500 to install the ZC. While thats not all that bad a price I'd prefer to learn how to do it myself.
The plus side about the mechanics is that they would let me walk around in the garage and let me watch how to do the install so I'd be learning. Unfortunately I don't anyone around here with any automotive experience that I trust.(Most are kinda shady, ya know?)
If anyone is doing a ZC swap I'd love to watch how to do it, so I could learn!

damn too late we did it last year
i don't think i would recommend the zc b/c it's slow and garbage, you can take a ride in my car if you want and you'll notice, i totally regret doing the swap myself, if i save up some cash that zc is going out. i would rather save up for a b16 or a b18c motor. you feel the power
