Well, when I was in OcTaNeTeDdY's car, I went to say...."is that all this car can do".....I didn't get to finish the sentence......then weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

It caught me off guard.

AND, to top it all off, the car wasn't tuned properly at the time.

I heard it now is, and it's even faster now. I'd love to go for another spin now that it's finaly set up properly. :

hint hint TeDdY.

I'm free after DK if you want to go to St. Thomas.

So my first turbo ride experience...

So the night came, as I was talking to SIR_YO (Ed), I saw Ray’s face in the crowd. So I walked up and said hi. Ray smiled, and replied:

“Are you ready for a ride?”

“Yes please” was the only thing I could think of at that moment. Got in the car, and I have never sat in a racing seat before. His are just not an ordinary racing seats, those are GT class ones (I don't know what I am talking about.... but those seats look sick). I had to ask for instruction on how to buckle up…

The buckle is heavy, just sits on my chest. I pulled on the harness and when the engine was on, it felt like the beginning of an awesome roller coaster, like the good ol’ “Days of Thunder” ride in Wonderland. Except, this is the real deal.

We chatted as Ray slowly drove the car out of the parking lot, and through KC and he decided to go for a spin on the 401.

He saw the onramp and just when he was about to floor it, we saw roadblock. Yes, roadblock we saw alright. I felt responsible cause if I didn’t ask for a ride, we didn’t have to go through it. But Ray kept his cool, pulled over and cops were asking all kinds of questions…

Are you a racer?
What are those in the back of the trunk?
Have you been drinking?

It was all good, and the cops let us go (4 cops + 3 police cars). But what shocked us was not the roadblock, but what the cops said at the end…..

Hey, you see that officer standing over there? Drive up to his position and when you pass him, floor your car. Yes yes, I am giving you permission to floor your car. Don’t worry I won’t charge you or anything….. JUST DO IT!

I am sure Ray was like…. WTF? Well confused I was, Ray did exactly what the police told him to do… he drove slowly to that spot then he just step on it…..

Oooo…… mmmyyy……… ggoooddd………..

It was just pure awesome experience! Gosh the sound of the BOV and being pushed back to the seat is nothing I have yet experienced. The suspension is stiff as hell and yet, not bumpy at all!

What a machine…..

Ooo... Maybe the cop wanted to smell if you were a racer and using NAWZZZZZZZZZ.
Or he just wanted to hear some turbo action.

I don't think intercooler gives that "wooosh" sound.... it is there to cool off intake air, not to give sounds.

Actually a BOV vents the pressure that builds in the pipes before the t/body since when the throttle slams shut like at shifts, the pressure has to go somewhere, so it may go back and shatter the impeller of the turbo, since it's trying to spin it backwards.

I got my first turbo experience yesterday too, went to my friends house where her dad just got his STi. Never been in a turbo car before (well my moms MX-6 back when I was 10, but she never booted it). We swapped in his momo bucket seats into his car and went for a boot.
I've never felt anything like that in a car before the shear power of the car was insane and it stuck to the ground like glue cept for one instance where he did a lil powerslide going left.

Awesome experience... must get sr20det.... hehe...

Hey I used to go for rides in my friends 01' Viper GTS. I know what it's like to go 0-100-0 miles in 15 sec.

But I've NEVER been inside a Turbo based car(except a slow SAAB).

To those who have been in or have turbo'd cars, is it similar to my experiences above? And what kind of Turbo power applied to a civic will rival that of American Muscle? (PSI?)

oh and is the increased consumption in gas due to the TURBO or just having too much fun?

Thanks!

Gas consumption would be due to the A/F ratio i think...and definitely the fun lol. I'm hoping to get at least 300+ km's when i go turbo.....although my buddy already told me hes gonna run it lil richer than stoich....better safe than sorry, i don't mind spending the xtra $$ on gas as opposed to blowing up my motor lol

How about use the boost controller to set the psi a little lower on day to day drive and set it back to like say 6 or 7 when you go to the track?

Would that save gas?

Average you ask eh? I guess it all depends on new or used parts.

For brand new set up it can go up to 8000 bucks (FMIC + BOV), or if you do it yourself, or get used parts, you could be looking around 2 to 3G?

But in general, turbo might cost less then swap (compare between the amount of HP gain).
