Question How do YOU clean YOUR car?

was thinkin about washing my car today... and just wanted to know how everyone else cleans their cars...

first i decide on the paint job... for example my civic has a **** paint job.. and needs to get repainted so i dont give a **** but i still want it clean.
so in that case i would use: turtle wax zip car wash, wool mitt, and dry it with an old bath towel.
on a good paint job like my corolla: meguiars/mothers car wash, wool mitt, and dry it with a sheepskin chamois.

clean rims with a good rim cleaner and buff to a shine ( the best comes from a detailers wholesaler) crappy tire stuff is okay.

clean up the exhaust from all the dust/carbon/**** its got on it, spray down with a bit of rim cleaner... then finish off with glass cleaner and buff to a shine..

then i would dress the trim/tires with a random detailers brand vinyl/rubber dressing.

and clean the glass with a good spray can glass cleaner... wiped with a microfiber, then wiped again with a seperate microfiber towel to kill any haze left behind.

dash wiped with a microfiber, i used to like my interior shiny then i realized it does look better without any... and it is easier to clean... and doesnt attract as much crap on your dash.

vacuum it ( if its a weekend or if i just have more extra time on a weekday)

and finish off with a tree to hang off my rear view.. either vanilla or coconut...

this is a weekly routine i follow.. once a week if its the summer its at least once a week or more... just depends

so let's hear what you all do..

for the wax you should try a double coat.... one coat with a good synthetic wax.. for its longer lasting shell.. and a coat of carnuaba wax for its deep wet shine... synthetic lasts longer than carnuaba, but carnuaba does have a deeper shine..

Shell gas station.

Every now and then, I'll go to In and Out in Brampton, a full service car wash, they'll clean inside and out for about $18 and get a dozen guys hand drying it.

Usually, gas station washes in winter, and hand wash in summer, unless I get lazy. I went to a sunoco in r hill yesterday, got the basic wash, and i was so satisfied with the basic wash. I usually get the basic wash at either shell or esso, as long as its not track based, and the wash is always pretty bad at the end. But the sunoco last night, for 8.39, I got wash, soap, soap, wash, dry. And it's "eco" .

During the Summer Mr. Clean wash at least once every 2 weeks with a Turtle wax once a month. Rims with a wet paper cloth to get rid of the brake dust. Vacume whenever needed. During the winter I hose her down at work with hot water to get rid of the salt and grime.

as far as i know it is not a good thing to wax your car everyweek ...

I take mine to fine details once every two weeks , or there is also a drive thru car wash on mavis and central parkway that i go to ( cheaper).

Car was painted last year so after a car wash it stays spotless for a while

And the waxing I only do it twice or 3 times per year, thats what they recommend at fine details ....

^^ When I had my civic painted back in 05, my friend / body shop owner said its only neccessary to wax your car once a year. He said if its only dusty, to wipe it down with the microfibre, then use a detailing spray to look after any little spots. So when my civic was on the road I would wax once a year, dust and detail once a week or more and only wash when it really got dirty.

Please help me understand why a body shop owner would suggest wiping a dusty car? Anything you use, microfibre or not, will just drag millions of abrasive 'airborne surface contaminants' across your clearcoat, waxed or not. Is this practice not astonishingly counter-intuitive to anyone else?

In my experience a microfiblre cloth will not scratch your clear coat. 5 years after my car was painted it still looks just as good as the day it came out of the shop... Definitely wouldnt recommend doing it with anything other then a clean microfibre. As for the physics of why it doesnt scratch the paint i cant answer that.
