just unplug the ABS control unit that sits next to your ECU in the passenger side kickpanel

About the ABS Control Unit. I thought it was attached to the ABS modulator. I might be wrong.

Anyway, the easiest way to undo it is to un-plug the fuse in the underhood fuse-box. There should be labels on the fuse-box cover that will show which fuse is for the ABS. Once you disable your ABS, your ABS light on the dash will stay on.

IMO, ABS does more good than harm. That is why manufacturers go to the trouble of installing it on almost all vehicles. I would suggest to go to a deserted lot and try "playing" with the ABS before you decide you don't want it.

ABS will not shorten your stopping distance, actually, it will increase your stopping distance but it will give you control so you can steer around a hazard. If you are in full braking lock up, you are just a passenger and no matter what you do, the car will continue on it's own path.

Any instructor dealing with icy conditions will swear by ABS. If you don't belive me, the "Skid Control School" in Oakville will make a believer out of anyone. Trust me this school is worth it's cost. I have gone 3 times and every time, I learned something new. (No I am not on their payroll)

under the hood i dont see a fuse marked ABS...do you? ive never slammed on the brakes in snow WITHOUT ABS so i want to try it out...all i know is i dont like what happens with ABS in the snow

unplugging the module is just as easy as the fuse...although i still dont know which fuse

98CivicSi, are you cooming to the meet tonight? If so, I can find out for sure which fuse to pull out.

What don't you like about ABS in the snow? lol the fact that you still have control over where your car goes? if it's stick you'll be able to survive downshifting when you're slowing down gradually but i'd never trade ABS in the snow, all that happens WITHOUT ABS is that you keep moving in the same direction you were moving when the wheels locked up
IMO if you really want it i'd suggest trying it out first as well, but i dunno

You are better off with the ABS in the snow, than without it. I'm guessing your problem might be due to your tires, and not the ABS system itself. IMO, I wouldn't disable it, especially in winter.

My father and I are graduates and complete believers in the benefits of going to Skid Control School. And I too am not on the payroll.

the pedal always feels weird on all the cars i've driven when i've hit ABS, isn't it so you know it's working or something? cuz you want to be aware that your car lost traction and that you need to pay attention..... i think the pedal moving back and forth is intentional, i have a 98 civic too and the pedal does the same thing i don't think it's messed, it's just the way it works..... i'm pretty sure but i could be mistaken
