how can you tell the diff between....
between a JDM B18C and JDM B18C-Spec R if the valve cover is gone by looking at the engine code??
do they stamp "Spec-R" near the engine code or is there another id number to tell the difference??

You Mean Type R??
I'm not familiar with spec=R, but then again I'm an idiot.
If its typeR you're asking about, B18C1 is GSR, B18C5 is TypeR- you will see the engine code stamped into the front of the block.

Charles, thats USDM...
JDMs are all labelled B18C. Type R motors have the B16A looking intake manifold though, whereas the SiR Integra ones have a B18C manifold. Head comes with mild P&P, also red valvecover which is easy to fake. LSD on all Type R vs. optional LSD on SiR. That's all I can think of.

if it's a true JDM Type R it will only say B18C stamped and on the tranny casing should read S80 and LSD printed onto the tranny casing Also I think the head should be a PR3 head, but not 100% sure, I just know the head does have a mild pnp like Bruno said, but you obviously can't see the pnp without taking off the IM
Oh oh, and look for the super heavy weight JDM ITR 4-1 header that's virutally indestructible hee hee, that's all I can think of
*added* the tranny casing could be USDM too, because CDM/USDM R's have the S80 tranny + LSD too, BUT the JDM Type R has the 4.785 final drive gear set *end added*
