now, Sir racer: what's wrong with being nice to mechanics in order to get things fixed cheaper, or at no cost? I dun know about you... but i don't like paying full price
i know he never said he owned one. but he's knocking on me cuz he says i cant afford a BMW but neither can he. besides, what's the point of bring in the size of someone's wallet into this debate??

and true there is nothing wrong with being nice. it's just that from readin japscrapacing's post it sounds like we all gotta suck up to the dealer and be their "best friend" in order to get something done under warranty. that's just NOT right to me. the warranty is part of the agreement that is made when someone buys the car. it covers the car in case something goes wrong. now if i bring my car in and something is busted that is SUPPOSED to be covered by warranty i dont want to have to get on my hands and knees to BEG them to fix it for me. i just hate it when dealerships try to weazle their way out of fixing something when they know full well its covered under warranty.

true... you shouldn't have to beg....but i think the point was if you know or are at the least freindly with your mechanic... they might over look things, and fix things that aren't or shouldn't be covered by warrenty at little or no charge

thank you cosmic - yes that was my point - when you have a problem with your car do you take it to - the manufacturer?

NO, you take it to the dealer who is the one who decides if its covered by the warranty - and as you correctyly point out, can often include things in the claim that wouldn't normally be covered, like belts, fluids related parts etc - there are ways of hiding things in claims to assist a customer. Or, to answer the original question, you can get defective items covered under warranty without worrying that you're perfomance mods are going to affect the warranty - after all the manufacturer doesnt HAVE to know its modified - the dealership can look the other way.

My point was that if the customer is a *****, i (as a service advisor) am not going to go out of my way to do anything more than is covered by the warranty. one however does not have to beg to get something that is legitimately covered under the warranty covered, nor did i ever suggest this.
