I'm curious...

Honda Warranty doesn't seem to say much about modifications.

Do you think Honda Warranty still covers you if you change your air intake to like Short ram?

It's hard to say!!! I called up Honda.. the guy just gave me the standard blurb.. he said "the warranty is void if the component causes a defect to another component."

Well... that doesn't tell me much. Anybody here know A LOT about Honda Warranty and can help me out? Does Air Intake void warranty?

I wouldn't worry about it Kent.

I also wouldn't worry about going a little over the 8,000 km mark before getting your oil changed. They will allow you some leeway. If you go like 1,000 kms or more over the recommended interval, then you've got something to worry about.

the ONLY way honda can void their warranty on a part is if they can PROVE that a modification you performed on your car directly caused the part in question to fail. otherwise, u're covered.

I double checked my warranty book... and it pretty much says that:

1. the aftermarket part is NOT covered by Honda.. DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! No ****! lol
2. The airbox warranty is void.. (well... shux.. I'm not even using it if I change my intake). lolol!
3. Any modifications you make to your engine to accomidate NEW parts or accessories also are not covered under warranty.
Well.. ****...

I wonder if I run into a problem with my engine.. how easy it is to put the airbox and filter back in and bring it to Honda for service? :) Do you think they'd notice?

Legally Honda/Acura must prove that the particular modification caused the problem. As well, be sure to do all scheduled maintenance on your car and keep all records, as they can void your warranty for not following the maintenance schedule.

i think my wiper motor is doing some wierd stuff... would this be covered under end-to-end warrenty u think? i hate getting jobbed by honda warrenties!

A lot of dealerships have cheesy intakes sitting in their own parts dept. I am sure that as long as you pay them big money to purchase & install an APC short Ram (Probably be more than doing the AEM CA yourself) that they will warranty it.:D

Number 7 Honda sells AEM intake. Short and Cold.

They cost...... <waits on phone>... 1 sec... man.. they're slow. haha..
it costs $355 + tax for SHORT RAM.

Apparently .. I called up Honda Customer Service.. and honda dealers.. and they all said that the part you install MUST be directly affecting the problem to void warranty. So if you installed a intake and your shock starts leaking.. they're not gonna blame the intake. DUH! lol

Installation will be about 1/2 to 1 hour.

The guy said that usually with Civics the power increase is minimal... HOWEVER... with other cars with bigger engines.. it's actually felt.

having worked as a service advisor at a dealership (BMW tho, not Honda) I can tell you that if you need something repaired under warranty its the dealership that makes the call - so its best to have a good relationship with the dealer because they can put through just about anything under warranty if they want - but if you give them a hard time about something or are a prick then they can come up with an excuse and you will have to start over again at another dealer and hope that they will fix it for you. The best thing to do is be a regular, pleasant customer and get to know the people at the dealership.

That's the best advice...just be nice, and don't appear to be some jackass with no knowledge mechanically but lotsa cash to blow. Remember, these ppl work for a living, and if you appear to be some kid with dad's chequing account, pleezebeliveit that they will likely print you an invoice when all's said and done.

It was just a comment that the dealership near me has APC.

Everybody keeps telling me that engine warranty is VOID if any problems RESULT from this installation.

Can anybody here honestly tell me if something could happen?? Like is it very possible or is it hardly possible (seldom or very rarely) something happens cuz of an intake installation?


ALSO.. as a bonus.. does an intake help with fuel economy or hurt fuel economy?

How easy is it to get water in your engine from a short ram intake? Cuz I honestly don't want water in my engine and my engine to blow up. lol!

Hurts fuel economy cause it encourages harder driving with the sound, and also more air = more fuel to maintain stochiometric air/fuel ratio.

No chance w/ short ram of getting water into the engine unless you like driving into Lake Ontario frequently. The water level would have to rise enough to actaully cover (submerge) the entire filter in order for your engine to get water into it. But at the car wash, it may be a wise precaution to bring a shopping bag to put over the filter when washing your engine compartment.

How about water spray going through my engine grill in the front of my car? Wouldn't that spray the filter and intake?

no offense but it's no wonder most dealership service people are pricks. from the sounds of it, it sounds like YOU are doing US (the customer) a favour by servicing our car! whatever, i dont need to suck up to a dealership service guy to get something done. i'm not saying that i'll be rude or anything but there are a TON of dealerships in town. it's dealership attitudes like this (as in the customer must suck up to the dealership) that pisses me off. if a dealership is being an ass about warranty then screw em. there are 50 other dealerships in town that deserve my business more.
