Honda Civic Maintenance, where do you go? Mississauga Honda charges alot
Okay well, as you may know I bought a 2003 Honda Civic LX Coupe last May 2006 and I have been getting the maintenance done at Mississauga Honda. I was just curious if this was the best place to go, because they seem to charge alot.
Here is what they are going to do for the "E" Maintenance....and remember this is costing $400 plus tax and environmental fee. Would you go for this??
Type E
Replace engine oil* and filter.
Service front and rear brakes.
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect parking brake adjustments.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
Inspect exhaust system.
Inspect fuel lines and connections.
Check all lights.
Inspect the underbody.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace dust and pollen filter.
Replace air cleaner element.
* Use only Genuine Honda Motor oil.

you dont need to do any of that bs excpt oil change , rest you can do at your discretion , its really easy just look around for anything suspicious,
definitely not worth 400 or 100 for that matter if all they do is check for stuff and not actually fix anything

If you're not strapped for time, you can do all of this yourself and gain some decent knowledge.
If you're unsure and don't want to venture, check the thread posted above and check affiliates on this site to get some pricing.

Well, I do have the time, I just dont think I can do it properly. I guess its a question whether its worth my time and hassel. I do agree I will gain some knowledge but will need someone to show me how to check. They will have my car all day and they will give me a rental for free. So I guess thats good not sure how far i can go in that car. Doesnt speedy check brakes for free?

if i were u i would get the oil change done, brake service and dust and pollen filters. then ask if u can get your tire pressures checked and to lubricate the doors and locks. All the other stuff doesnt really need to be checked because if its about to go then they will try and upsell it to u anyways. The tire pressure check and lubricating of doors and locks are free so that wont cost anything.

I've spent the cash to have the brakes serviced on both of my car and IMO it is worth the cash, but I wouldn't do it as often as Honda suggests. I have neither the knowledge or the tools to take apart all 4 of my brakes, inspect, clean, adjust and put them all back together.
Most things on the list can be done yourself and at my dealership, there is a small inspection list that they go through during the oil changes.
Try a local garage that someone has suggested if you do want to pay Honda's prices.

also ask when they are doing the brake service if u can get the tire rotation done. its a no charge service because they already have to take the wheels off anyways.
I work at a dealer man, just trying to help u out, trust me it will be alot cheaper then a 400 dollar type E service.

Shop the market, ask friends and family for referrals, and whatever you do don't trust Quick Muffer Shop to do any work. The owner is a shoddy business man, out to make a quick buck, and has no customer service skills what so ever.

KeIran - I know you're trying to help me out. And I do appreciate your comments I learned alot. I just meant I thought the brakes would be more expensive so i may as well have everything checked, but looks like I got ripped off. They said I needed new tires and that would cost 650 plus taxes, and the smartest thing I did was refuse that offer.
So now that I need new tires, does anyone know which brand is best for a 2003 civic lx or which to avoid?

I think the most annoying thing they do, is repeatedly tell me that I am getting the "TYPE EEEEEEEEE" Service. They love to emphasize that I am getting type EEEEEEEEEE like its something special I just want to smack them silly.
