hey guys,
i was looking to get into the rental business by starting off with 4 cars...
tell me what you guys think in the sense that if the vehicle is something you would rent and any pros/cons about the vehicles...
so far i have

02-04 jaguar x-type (bad maintenance)
03-04 range rover
03-05 tsx (maybe)
04-06 CTS (a good one)
i am going to specilaize in high end rentals only but will have some mid-size sedans aviliable as well.
if you guys can think of any better cars that would be suitable please let me know

Sounds like a nice idea. I'm sure there are people that want to rent something better then a cobalt or any kia.
The Jag is not the best idea. I like them, but they are prone to misfortune as you have noted.
Some cars I have enjoyed driving were the Audi S6, BMW 6 and 5 series, and the AMG SL65, although it may be a tad expensive and the AMG SLK55 and the CLS63 are a blast to drive as well, but come at a lower price.
Also consider the Infiniti M-Series. I had a great time driving that car, and its not all that expensive for what it offers. Plus japaneese reliability is a huge plus.

drive by GTA Exotics on queensway.. they will be your competition.
Notice how most of the cars just stand there unused most of the time.
Did you do serious research on the market and how feasable this idea is, or is this just something you came up with and haven't put too much though into?

personally i think you rental business will fail.
harsh yes but its the truth.
just think about the amount of rental companies there are let alone individual places. there are rental companies giving car rentals at 15 dollars a day plus insurance some give 100 dollar weekend rentals with unlimited km's.
what you have to understand is the difference between specialty rentals (which your trying to run) and everyday rentals. you business cant survive especially the first year if your planning on carrying speciality vehicles because the average person doesnt want to spend money on rental and if they are being forced to rent they dont want to pay alot and unlimited or high km's per day is key. Your rough ratio for average customers to special request customers would be 1 to 10.
The only way you can pull this off is if you have a complete line-up of regular vehicles ie. civics, mazda 3's, corrolla's, cobalts, etc etc.. and then have a couple of special cars but a tsx, x type etc wont attract customers because they arent really anything special.
if you need more advice regarding rental business let me know a really good friend of mine owns and runs a rental company and he is on his second year almost i can hook you up with him and you guys talk it over.

very few people rent exotics to begin with so it is aniche market you are trying to target. your definition of high end is not very high end, more like mid end. the only car on your list that can be classified as somewhat high end is the h2 and even that is pushing it.

i have a clientele base for it thats is why i am starting it. i have a friend who is gettin me into this business who has 40 high end and mid size vehicles on the road all paid off.
we deal with people whom rent vehicles for minimum of a month at a time up to 6-7 months sometimes.
a competitive rate with unlimited mileage will be included in all of our deals. either use your own platinum or gold visa insurance or pay a low rate for our insurance.
i will not be getting into exotic rentals at all. mid end to high end is good enough. i basically want to run a rental agency that has cars that hertz avis alamo doesnt have. ie. x-type, hummer h2 (they have h3 only) range rover, x5, ml500....i would not survive if i had normal cars, they would eat me alive.
