HELP! Need some advice please!

hey guys, first off my name is Salty, im pretty new to the civic world seeing as im only 18 but ive got a question that i need some advice on. so here goes.

So ive been talking to this guy whos selling a bunch of honda parts for my year civic (ek) and he claims to be parting out his build. now on his classified ad he wanted 850$ for his b16a, 300$ for his 2 sparko racing seats. Now ive been talking to him for more than 2 weeks and he hasnt sold them yet and now hes getting antsy to sell them so he agreed on a ridiculously low price for both. he said he;d give me the seats, the b16a and the clutch, flywheel, harnesses, ecu, etc. all for $500. Im assuming the parts are hot seeing as he wants to meet at a tim hortons, which im not too concerned about but heres my question.

Because the b16a is already pulled, i have no way of telling how and if this motor is seized, garbage, if its good, or any internal damage. but for a price like that it makes me double think it because heres my logic, bare with me, lets say the engine is shot, and it needs a rebuild or something, for 500$ is it not true that i could part out the engine and at least make my money back? especially since hes throwing in the sparco seats? i mean those probably retail for like 250 each im guessing? and im guessing i could sell the valve cover, clutch, head, etc for at least all for around 300$? id really like any advice anyone can offer me. i currently have a 98 civic si SOHC 1.6 but it has 355k on it. im assuming that pretty soon that motors gonna give out, which is why im looking at the b16. plus im a teenager and so i always rip to 6 grand when driving and ive read that the b16 is a high revving engine.

If you guys have anything to offer please let me know, all responses will be appreciated. I just need some reassurance that my logic is right in saying id make my money back if the motor was shot.

Thanks alot and its awesome to be a new member of the TCC :)

-Salty.

The old adage comes to mind...

If it sounds to good to be true.....

very true, but dont you think i could part it out for my money back at the worst case scenario?

Why go through the effort on something that may not return the value you put into it? You part out a potentially shot engine, I highly doubt you'll make much on said parts.

thats true, but arent the sparco racing seats alone worth the 500$?
so lets say i only make 100-200$ on the parts of the engine IF its shot, it still wouldnt be that bad of a deal would it?

If that motor is shot, the head might be as well. If the pistons melted/broke the pieces could have smashed the valves and head beyond repair. Then you'd be stuck with an engine worth nothing.

I'd be very careful if I were you.

B16's rev to 8000rpm+ :)
