I think I might be starting to change my opinions of a hybrid CR-Z.

I'll admit, I don't know much about hybrid technology. I always assumed/thought that a Hybrid was a car that was powered by batteries or something and a total bore to drive. I assued it would be like driving a big golf cart. I've been reading about the Honda IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) technology and I now know what it's all about.

My understanding is that the Honda IMA uses a normal L-series gas engine with a small electric motor attached to it to assist the engine with acceleration and allow the gas motor to work less and therefore increase fuel economy.

I had the opportunity to drive a new Insight the other day and aside from the CVT transmission, it was like driving a Civic. Sure not as fast as my Si, but it definately didn't feel like I was driving the golf cart like I thought it would be.

I think if Honda uses a bigger L-series engine or even the R18 from the current Civic combined with the electric motor, it would probably be a fun little car to drive. The original CRX was hardly a performance powerhouse, but was a very entertaining car.

With manual transmission, 150 hp and around 2500lbs like a Fit, I'd seriously consdier one.

One thing i know about hybrids (IMA), is that they are expensive, though they pay themselves off with fuel savings and massive government rebates. For highway/country drivers, like myself, they are useless. Diesels would be much more effective that scenario.

I can't see honda making this with only one option for a motor. They're smart, so i believe they will make an option for both.

I thought they were expensive too, but a hybrid Civic is about the same price as my Si and an Insight is even cheaper.

As awesome as putting a K20 in the CR-Z would be, it would probably out perform the Si and diminish its sales. I cant really see Honda wanting to compete with themselves.

I drive abourt 35000ks a year and Im thinking a hybrid might not be such a bad idea.
