Very minor differences mostly in options and features. Mechanically they are the same.

I went to look at cars today.. and one of the hatchbacks I saw was a Civic DX with "Special" badged under the "Civic" Anybody know how this is different from a regular DX?

And what are the minor difference between the CX and DX? They were $1 000 different in year 2000..

CX is the base model and DX is one up from it. Same 106hp engine and tranny combo, same suspension.

The DX special might have come standard with A/C and a few minor differences like a tach and a passenger side mirror and some minor interior upgrades.

All 6th gen hatchs come with passenger mirrors...... CX may not come with a rear wiper.

The special has 14" alloys, mid spoiler and something else i jus cant remember

^^ OH, on the SE, passenger has an airbag too???
I thought that CX and DX, passenger doesnt have airbag.. right??

The one i looked at today had what looked like a passenger side airbag... and a mid spoiler. And alloys..

No powerwindows though..

Can anybody confirm the airbag thing?

k people are getting way to confused here.
here is the run down.

1996-1998 two models where offered cx and dx
cx= base model, came with NO POWER OPTIONS except brakes and steering. things like rear wiper blade, a/c where an option. came with 13 inch steelies, radio
dx= rear wiper blades, 14 inch steelies, radio cassette, a/c was still an option

1999 = same thing as above except it changed the body styling a little

2000 = cx, dx, dx se
cx and dx where the same, the dx se however was different, it came with 14 inch rims, mid spoiler, a/c, painted trims, cd player

all cars from 1997 through 2000 came with DUAL AIRBAGS. 1996 had only 1 side airbag with the passanger side being an option and it had an airbag tray.

all this is from the top of my head.

Pretty much what Team Rukus said, and DX manual has tach, while CX doesn't.

The EG CX/DX were also different in sound-deadener. THe CX has none, the DX has a small amount, and the SI has lots. I guess this is for road-noise..

Just one small thing to add.

All hatches had A/C as an option, even the 2000 Special Edition (DX SE). The Special Edition Sedan had A/C and keyless standard.

the cx does not come standard with power steering, no spoiler, power nothing, am/fm radio, front speakers only, and driver air bag only. 106hp w/ 103 torque.

Can't speak for the 99-00 models but my 97 is a CX-G and in addition to what was mentioned above it came with a tach, 4 speakers instead of 2, and driver/passenger vanity mirrors.
In 96-97 there was no DX hatch, just CX and CX-G.
