Had my Honda's 48000 km service today
Well dudes.. like the topic says.. I had my 48000 km service today @ Parkway Honda.
Parkway Honda does one of the BEST jobs of servicing vehicles I have ever seen.. very indepth.
Well.. here's some good news.. after 48000 km.. my brake pads have never been replaced and I've only used 25% of the pads in the front and 16.6% of the pads in the rear. That means my brake pads will last me well past when I sell my car... clearly I don't slam on my brakes a lot. haha.
But the bad news is plentiful... more than enough to outweigh the good news.
1. My front shocks are leaking so they're gonna have to be replaced. They aren't covered under warranty since I lowered my car.... booyorn... (even tho the 2001 and 2002 Civics have been known to have leaking shocks apparently).
2. My rim is bent. They discovered this as they were taking off my tires I guess... my rim is bent and it looks as if I hit a HUGE pothole. My rim lip is so bent.. that if I was to hit another pot hole.. the tire's gonna slip off the rim. It's pretty bad.
Add***3. When I had the aftermarket springs put on.. the shop forgot to put the shock dust covers back on.
4. The total service costed me ~$350.
My rear shocks are fine but the front ones are leaking... my car doesn't stop bouncing when I go over a bump...
My rim's bent and it looks as if the tire's gonna slip off the rims soon.
I dunno.. what do you guys suggest? Should I just leave these problems or get them fixed? I've seriously considered just leaving it as is... and just saving up for a new vehicle...
Or do you guys think I should fix it up and keep the car for safety reasons AND for another few years. I'm not willing to sink money into my car if I'm gonna be selling it soon.

Do you have stock or aftermarket rims? If you have aftermarket rims then see if it can be repaired. If its a stock rim maybe look into getting it repaired or picking up a set of used aftermarket rims? I would say pick up some new shocks, maybe get some stock honda ones if there cheap with the TCC discount at parkway.

The rims are my aftermarket rims. They're 17" rims.
Shocks from Honda I was told are really bad for handling aftermarket springs. Furthermore, they're not going to be cheap... And I'd DEFINATELY not spend the money if I'm gonna have blown shocks again... that's wasted money.
KYB said they're AGX series for the 01+ civics are to be released in August 2004.

I would look into getting the rim fixed ASAP. I think there is an affiliate or something in the members lounge who does rim repairs?
As far as the shocks go, why dont you get some koni red's or yellows or something thats gonna have a very smooth ride but not kill your wallet.

Koni Yellows I heard are $1000 for my car.. just for parts.. and for labor.. I gotta get them put on...
Furthermore... The Koni yellows use stock shock housing..
OH YA.. Don't forget... Honda said that after <the shop> installed my new springs.. they forgot to put the shock dust covers back on.

I say fix the things coz if you want to sell it later on, the car still needs to be in good condition, right? If you don't fix these things, they have the potential to get worse. Especially fix the rim coz it's a definite safety hazard if your tire falls off the rim!

If KYB has the AGX coming out later this year wait till they come out then get them as they will be cheaper then Konis for sure.
I'd get the rim looked at and fixed or replaced ASAP, that can be very dangerious.

Pffff......off the top of my head....depends on the damage to it. A pic would help a lot cause if it's bent REALLY BAD then your gonna have to pony up the cash for a new rim.
I'm guessing maybe $100 and up but I've never had to have a rim repaired (I'm too poor to afford rims). If it's too pricey it's just as good to replace it, if your tire is good then you save some money there.
I'd call Wheel And Tire Zone (905-624-1577, Eglinton and Dixie in Mississauga). They might be able to help you in where to get it fixed.
Once again good luck and your welcome!

yes, I still have my koni yellow's and they're still up for sale, but I'm not sure if they'll work on your car.. I would even give you my stock sleeves that I had to modify to put the yellow's in...
I'd fix the car, especially the rim.. you don't want your tire falling off and causing more damage to your car
