Angry Grrrrr...again with the car!!!

Hey guys!

Took the car into the dealership for the fifth time this morning with the same problem. They think I'm being unreasonable for being so angry about this.

I'm new to owning a car and really don't know what my next step should be. I called Honda Canada last time, but I felt like they were just trying to get me off the phone. I'm obviously getting no where with the dealership. My dad is coming in with me this evening to talk to the sales manager but I seriously feel like I'm getting NO WHERE!

After 5 times for the same problem, do you guys think I have a lemon? Can I fight them? Any more advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what the lemons law is in Ontario, but in most states, it's 7 times for the same problem, then the car is off to the crusher, and you get a new one. Now, there is a branch of Transport Canada or MOT that you should contact, so search around or call the MOT. They will give you some dispute resolution advice. Just keep going back to the dealer and complaining. Dealers have been dicks to me in the past... BTW, I forget what the problem was??? Just demand, demand, demand, and you may get what you want. Otherwise, consult a gov't branch that deals with lemons... Hopefully you get a new car I agree with Marty, I think you are dealing with a bunch of morons, but if you go back there, and the problem doesn't get fixed, then you may get a new car out of it under lemon laws, so you might get lucky. Keep going to them until you find out whether there is a lemon law or not in Ontario. Continue to file complaints with Honda Canada as well. Toot all horns. If there is no lemon law, then go to a more competent mechanic/dealer. I think you can always modify around the problem, depending on what it is.

Warranty is warranty, so I would suggest you try another dealer first. Good luck.

I too had a problem with IDH they all told me that there was nothing wrong and that the car was still under warrenty. I to spoke with Honda Canada and if you can't prove your case they will always side with the dealer as in my case. This went on for a good six months with the dealer winning the battle. I eventualy called their bluff. I had threaten to sue and boycott thier dealer ship. That just made them mad. Once I had told them that I had called the media to inform them of the problem with the car it took five days to have a brand new car in my hands. (they also new what was wrong with the car.) Funny how the media can scare a large company like that.

I would definatley go to another dealer. I can't stand Dealership service shops. They **** me off so much. In the past I have had nothing but problems with them. That's why I have my own personal mechanic that I go to all the time. He does what you ask him to do and no bullshyt, and he's cheap too!!!!

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Agent Orange - No modifications whatsoever on the car. I got the car in Oct 2002 and started having problems Jan 2003. Yesterday was the 5th time I've taken it to Classic Honda in Brampton for the same problem. Here's what's been happening...the ABS light comes on and shuts off the radio, all the gauges go to zero, and the lights dim. When I go to start the car the next time, it won't start. I've had 2 new batteries put in, a new alternator and last time they tightened, cleaned, and lubricated the body grounds. (Anyone know what a body ground is btw?)

I called Honda Canada again yesterday. What I learned from that experience is that their call centre people are seriously lacking in customer service skills. They basically told me that I need to be patient and to stop being such a pain in the *** calling them. Also learned that Honda doesn't replace cars or allow you to return the car for a refund of your down payment under any circumstances. If I have to take it in every week for the next 4 years, they expect me to be more understanding and patient. Yeah, whatever.

Their next step is to replace the harness and if that doesn't fix it, then they'll replace the computer. Meanwhile, they've rented me a car. If it's not fixed this time, I'm taking it to another dealership.

I'll keep you guys updated!

You can try the Automobile Protection Ageny (416)204-1444

Someone gave me this number when I was fighting with Chrysler
Never ended up calling them, but they might offer some advise to you.

I believe they may assist you if you want to take it to the "Next level"

Good Luck .... I took my issue all the way to the VP of Chrysler Canada ...... to no avail.

I still have faith in Honda though

Body grounds...are wear the electric system is grounded to the body of your car ...at least that what i am assuming they are talking about...

I had this problem once with my mazda tribute...i believe it was an ECU problem along with a blown fuse...it could just be something that simple blowing fuses...

your problem is definitely electrical. sounds like a loose ground wire and it's creating a short circuit that trips your circuit breakers or fuses. when you are not in motion the wires don't move so your fine. after you go over bumpy roads, you'll problably notice "electrical" gremlins.

body grounds are the points where the electrical wiring is "grounded" to your chasis. the problem is which ground and where it is causing the problem? there's a lot of wiring and harnesses in any car and a number of grounding points. problem is to get to to grounding points, you sometimes have to take the dash, seats, carpeting, etc out to get to them. that's not easy work, especially if you don't know which ground wires are giving you the problem. you need an electrical specialist.

Good luck with getting your problems resolved.

I had a problem with the exhaust system in my car (it rattled at specific rpm's), and approached Roadsport Honda about it once, but they said that there was no problem coz they couldn't hear the rattling, but I thought that it was pretty pronounced. I ended up masking the sound by just turning the radio up louder for about a month or so, but then luckily I found out that Honda, in that time, had put out a service bulletin. I went back, showed them the service bulletin that I found on the internet, and got them to fix it after they successfully diagnosed the problem the second time around (but I swear that the sound was always there; they're just stupid and probably didn't want to pay for fixing it coz in the end, they replaced the entire exhaust system). Once again, good luck in your quest coz I know that some dealerships can be hard asses.

Hey dude. I would keep on taking it into them every three days, demand a free repair job, and just keep pissing them off, and tell them that this time they better actually be mechanics and try to fix the car.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I've been doing. It gets a little frustrating after 5 times though.

Just spoke with the dealership and the new harness didn't work. Now, the plan is to compare it's "numbers" to another Si and see what's up from there. There was talk of replacing the computer, but he didn't mention it this time. I'm hoping that we're getting closer to a refund or replacement...if that does happen, should I go for another Civic?
