Really good article....
"The true street racers will continue to keep their cars under wraps or in the garage until it's late enough to pull them out. They'll drive them carefully and responsibly on the street until the last possible moment, and the very quickest disguise their power and abilities well enough to not attract unwarranted attention."

It touched me.
Something we also need to know is that, for them (police) to target the true street racers, it would be nearly impossible to pin point each and everyone of them. To catch a few, you must catch a whole bunch and try out your luck.
It is just like buying lottery.
This could be the most effective way of targeting out the racers. The more people/car you stop, the likelyhood of getting the real McCoy. Again, you are increasing the probability.
By ticketing people, it is a sign to discourage them from going into heavy modding and turn their car into something they will not be able to control, but rather a potential street killing machine.
It has everything to do with the North American culture, the good ole Muscle Car and Hot Rods, but not the imports. You see a Hot Rod on the street, you think it is cool and cops will most likely and definitely not bother him/her. You see an import covered in vinyl with flashy body kits you are thinking he is up to no good. Because this new culture isn't built into North America, yet. How many kids can afford to build a Hot Rod? I would say very little to none. Hot Rods and Collector Cars are almost all reserved for people who know cars for a long long time and does it for a living. I would believe they have more knowledge and responsibility when it comes to driving.
But when they were young, they are just like you and I, love to work on cars and occasionally, race them. They are the "survivers" of the 60s and 70s and they carried their passion into 90s and if any of us have just as much passion as they do, you would keep your car for as long as possible and drive it out on the street one day, maybe let's say, year 2030.
Civics by then will be old cars that needs restorations. You think any cop will give you hassle then? I don't think so. In fact, most of them will envy the car. Swap? You can be running 500WHP under the hood and no one will give a little rat's *** about it. Altezza? Son, let me tell you, it was the coolest thing ever back in the late 90s. Now, it is antique and you won't find it anywhere else.
I am gonna stay in the stream and live with my passion. I may not have all the expertise in cars compare to other folks, but it is something I love to do on the side and I will continue to do it as long as I have spare money to play with.

You all should sent Mark an email (mrichardson@thestar.ca) to let him know this is a subject that needs to be continually mentioned.
He seems to care and cna help to present the culture/community side of this hobby as opposed to the crime and death.
Mark is the editor of wheels and is much respected. To let him know real tuners share his opinion would serve all of us well.

awesome article really puts things in perspective ...
u appreciate life after reading someone else's misfortune ...
but why ?
why does it take a story like this to make people start thinkin of the consequences ... people are selfish and think of them selves when it comes down to it ....
u want an adrenaline rush , go to the track or go skydiving ....
