Get the licence plate and call the dealer. Also report to the cops, they do investigate aggressive drivers, I did it a week ago to some retards that blew by me on the 427. I called, reported one of the license plates and where it was and sure enough, 10 mins down the road an OPP stopped one of them. I Lol'd.

I don't let tail gaters bother me. I just concentrate more about what is in front of me.

If they rear-end you, it's their fault, not yours. I don't agree with tapping of the brakes to **** someone off or teach them a lesson because it's not worth causing an accident and possibly injuring or killing someone over it.

Just keep your cool and concentrate on the road infront of you.

+1 for the ppl that said hit the brakes. Not suddenly or completely....but you shoudda began to brake imo.

When ppl tailgate you and start getting you ticked in the head...you gotta keep your cool no matter how frustrating it can be, and remember your driving a 140km/h 2500 lbs piece of steel capable of doing very serious damage. Rather than begin to pull irrational maneoevers such as slamming brakes, speeding excessively or swerving to avoid the tailgator...try to get in their head...he wants to go fast...ok...then im gona slow down so he has no choice but to stop tailgaiting. If he wants to stay on your ***... HOPE he hits you...your gona have a field day reaping from his insurance

Tailgaters are the trolls of the road... if you let them get into your head, they've won :/

Whenever I get a tailgater on me, which is all too often with the nice weather, I just double my gap to the car ahead, maintain speed and try to predict braking further in advance... it's the best way of protecting yourself from getting hit since you won't have to brake as hard. It also doubly pisses them off because you're now leaving a gap they would prefer to occupy.

And when, inevitably, an adjacent lane opens up and they impatiently try to pass you on the inside, I just close the gap and make them fall back in behind. Most tend to get the point after that.

Worst tailgater I ever had that managed to get into my head was this dude in a BMW (surprise surprise) who I saw blasting through traffic in and out of all 3 lanes on the QEW. He eventually got behind me, inches away from my bumper in thick traffic, and was talking on his phone (no handsfree either). Passing lane was moving along pretty good and the other lanes were going pretty slow so I didn't have a chance to get out of the way. I opened up a safety gap and rolled along for about 15 minutes with no remorse from this douchebag. Finally, a lane opens up and I get out of the way, furious, and he bolts by and starts tailing the dude that was in front of me. So, with petty revenge on the mind, I drop to 3rd and start tailing him by inches for a few minutes, making a crapton of noise in the process.... actually got a thumbs up for it from another driver hahaha

Ur fault for speeding up to 160kmh, THEY want you too. u should have just moved over.

If I get some road rage in me ill just drop a gear and show them my car has some ***** and then drop to 120 and let them go on with there lives. IF they continue to tailgate me, I would pull over, grab my mag light and rush there car. (normally doesnt get to that point.

^ ?? From the terribly written sentence above, I can see that you're an idiot...and probably a ***.

Anyways there is nothing wrong with being an aggressive driver. I just can't stand people that don't understand the rules of the road, especially the rule of the 'passing lane'. I think the worst move an incompetent driver does is when they drive down the road and then all of a sudden slam the brakes, and hang a right WITHOUT signaling in advance.

if i'm on a city street i just let off the gas, let the car slow right down, and crawl through traffic... i've done about 40 on finch before because of a tailgater... if i'm on the highway i just move aside when it's safe to.

i've slammed on the brakes once... the guy was on me @ 160 and flashing his beams but he didn't know i had just had a huge fight with my ex and i was in a terrible mood, i wouldn't advocate it now nor would i do it again, if he didn't have good reflexes it would have been over for both of us.

when you're trapped with no where to go, it is annoying when the person behind you is flashing you and tailgating you...i just put my foot off the gas...slow down a bit and bring him in close and flick a switch to turn the rear brake lights on...voila - no more tailgater. lol

Hold the temptation. Brake-checks are grounds for an HTA 172 charge.

Racing, stunts, etc., prohibited
172. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway in a race or contest, while performing a stunt or on a bet or wager. 2007, c. 13, s. 21.

-----------

8. Driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway or in a manner that may endanger any person by,
i. driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to prevent another vehicle from passing,
ii. stopping or slowing down a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates the driver’s sole intention in stopping or slowing down is to interfere with the movement of another vehicle by cutting off its passage on the highway or to cause another vehicle to stop or slow down in circumstances where the other vehicle would not ordinarily do so,
iii. driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to drive, without justification, as close as possible to another vehicle, pedestrian or fixed object on or near the highway, or

Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8

so basically if they tailgate us we can hope they get charged. if we brake-check we'll definitely get charged. that's what it sounds like to me.

The person who brake-checked this vehicle got a lot more than HTA 172.

He was charged with criminal negligence casing death. He pled guilty to the lesser and included charge of dangerous driving causing death as well as leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Today (Monday) he finds out just how long he's going to jail for.

was it the driver that died? what are the particulars of the case? like how fast were they going? in driving school they teach you proper following distance, x amount of car lengths apart and all that... don't mean to sound callous but all i see is a safer road with one less ignorant ******* on it, and one more person punished for another person's disregard for those around them.

This is why I said before I try not brake check, or even flash my brake lights.

It's not worth causing an accident or any kind of harm to anyone just to prove and point or because I'm pissed that they are tail-gating. I just concentrate on what's in front of me so I don't rear-end someone. Then, if the person behind hits me because he was following too close, it's his fault and they caused the accident, not you.

Gotta keep a cool head and use common sense behind the wheel. Though sometimes that's easier said then done.

Huh? Disregard for those around them goes all ways. Ever heard of keep right except to pass? Or, if people are passing you on the right, you may be in the wrong lane? Sometimes it's the tailgaters who are the unreasonable ******, and sometimes it's the person being tailgated.

Even if someone is tailgating, you don't potentially sentence someone to injury or death for it. People that do that should never be allowed to drive again. Slow down gradually, fine. Better yet, just change lanes and let them by if you can.

In the Milton case, the driver of the SUV that was brake-checked died. At the time he had just got on the 401 and was travelling with the flow of morning traffic. He wasn't tailgating. The car doing the brake-checking was originally behind the SUV, swung out to pass, then changed lanes back to be right in front of the SUV where it did the brake check. The SUV swerved to avoid collision, hit the center concrete barrier and rolled over.
