Which to go with (brand new SUV), and value of an older civic...?

Hi there,

I'm currently looking into the possibility of purchasing a brand new SUV, and the models I've considered were:

- Toyota RAV4 -- was initially the most favoured, but not so much anymore given that recall issue...

- Honda CRV
- Nissan ROGUE
- Mitsubishi OUTLANDER
- Suzuki GRAND VITARI

I'm ideally looking for something that's good on gas, can handle long drives/trips, is durable, roomy, can carry people and items no problem (I have a lot of things that I tend to stuff into my current civic - ie. hockey bags/gear, my snowboarding gear, my drums, etc.), that sorta-thing...

Is there anything you folks can recommend/suggest based on the above, general post?

Also; what do you think the trade-in, resale value is for a 1998 Honda Civic SI coupe?

Its black, has about under 170,000 km's, is standard/manual trans, has aftermarket tail lights (carbon fibre Altezzas), aftermarket shift ****, and aftermarket CD/MP3 player (Pioneer)...

The rear side area (near rear bumper/right tail light) is starting to crack as a result of rust, and the stick that controls the wiper blades (right of steering wheel) is partially dislodged so I had to stuff a piece of paper in there to correct this (therefore, is working/functional). But other than that, its fully paid for, has never been in an accident, is fully maintained, comes with snowtires, etc... Wanna know what I can potentially get for this, either credit/trade-in value or cash-wise...

Thx TCC,

I would get none of those. The CRV and RAV4 are very expensive for what they are, basically bigger/taller/roomier versions of the car they are based on.

Personally, I am looking at something a little roomier then my Civic and cars such as a MazdaSpeed3, 5 door VW GTI and the Impreza are on my list.

A 98 Civic Si might be worth $3k private, but not much to a dealer.

you could maybe sell it to a kid for $2-5k depending on what its like.
but its not even gonna be worth the trade in!
especially in comparison to the price of a brand new SUV.
so if you can, throw the car up on the classifieds, see what kinda offers you get.
avoid trading in your car to the dealership! they'll give you peanuts for it. (if thats what you meant by trade in..)

and i'd say go with the CRV or the outlander. but thats me. im just a honda and mitsubishi person..

All those SUV's listed and the word 'roomy' shouldn't be in the same sentence. Most SUV's, especially small to mid-sized, are very deceiving in the fact that there really isn't much room inside them at all, dispite how big they are on the outside.

I dislike most SUV's and strongly believe you do not get your money's worth when you buy one. So I'd wouldn't buy any of em.

But thats my opinion. Sorry, that wasn't much help to the O.P. lol

I have a 08 CRV and love it. I average 11L/100 and drive fairly aggressive. you do have the option to turn off the stability assist which is fun in the mud and snow. Interior is average for plush but good for road noise. I've been rockin 2 JL 12's for 8 months and haven't noticed to many rattles. I have a Lab, 10 year old and wife and we can pack 4 days worth of camping gear in it and be comfortable. One thing when I'm pulling our utility trailer the 4 banger struggles but what can you expect from a vehicle designed to be fuel efficient. PM me if you have any other questions.

I'm sorry but 11L/100kms doesn't sound too fuel efficient to me. Driving aggressively or not.
