gas mileage

First off, this thread should be called "Fuel Consumption".
In Canada, the offical way of reporting fuel consumption is # of litres per 100 km...
On my Civic, I get about 500 km on a tank in the summer and 420 in the Winter. I usually use Shell Gold. 6th gens have 45 litre tank. 7th gens have a 50 litre tank. I believe 5th gens have a 40 litre tank. From my rough calculation I get 9.0 L/100 km
If you use Sunoco Ultra 94, you should notice worse fuel consumption numbers because of the alcohol content.
The fuel gauge is not accurate and that's how people like it. Cadillac once made an accurate and linear fuel gauge in the 80s and they had so many complaints, they were forced to change the gauge logic...
As a general rule, (and this applies for all cars):
When the car is full, the gauge is above 'F'.
When the gauge is slightly below 'F', 20-25% of the fuel has been used.
At the halfway mark, 55-60% of fuel has been used.
At about 1/4 mark, 75-80% has been used and the 'low fuel' should come on shortly after that....
Does that make sense?
Oh, spracingsports, in Cali, they use reformulated gasoline with alcohol. 250 miles sounds about right. I am assuming you usually fill up when the light comes on. You can stick to regular by the way. You have nice clean fuel down there... I think you don't drive it 'that' hard, with all the traffic down there, it is pretty hard. Also, when you are "granny shifting", I think you shift too early causing the engine to run rich so, you are defeating the purpose of trying to save fuel. So, because of that, your mileage doesn't change that much. This is my guess.
Difference in fuel consumption between 100 and 160 km/h? I would say it would be twice as bad, if not more....At high engine speed, a lot of Honda engines, run open loop, thus becoming rich. What does this mean? They use more fuel than is actually required. Why do they do this? So, the catalytic converter doesn't get too hot. When the car is running open loop, the fuel consumption just goes through the roof.....

I don't understand why people would hate having a linear fuel guage. It would be nice to know how much gas you actually have rather than thinking "It's at half a tank, so that really means i have closer to a quarter left..."

i don't think that's what he means by linear fuel gauge.... comparing when the fuel light goes off to where the needle is at the time is totally irrelevant... how about you tell us EXACTLY how much gas is in the tank at every point on your gas gauge (F, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, E) and then we can figure out if it's linear or not...
if you really wanted you could have your gas gauge go off at half a tank, that doesn't mean it's a linear fuel gauge....

I know for a fact that Ef gas tanks are 45L, just thought some clarification was need, i saw a lot of numbers being thrown around. With my old beater i got just over 600km from 40-43L of gas. I was averaging up to 15km a litre.

I get around 300-350km a tank. That's city and highway and i beat the hell out of my car most of the time. If i go highway driving all the way i can take it like 380-400 that's almost down to the bottom when the light is on and almost empty. I drive a eg hatch with a d16z6 engine.
Is this normal because i see people get like 400-500 and some 600km per tank. How come i get so less and some other people get even less. Is that because my si engine? Some people have sir engine and they say they can get like 550-600km per tank? How is that possible? Is that because my eg hatch has a much smaller gas tank than the rest of the civics? I think i put in like 30L or just over 30L each time.

Out of curiousity how are you guys getting these figures? Are you driving your car until it runs bone dry? From what I've noticed, When I fill up I generally get 12km or so for every Litre ... so seing as I have a 45l Tank I should be between 500-550 .. that's a 99 Sedan with b16A JDM
