Ford's Next POS

http://www.fordvehicles.com/flex/

You can call me a poor man's ranger rover or just a bigger and sleeky scion XB. Though gas prices are high...but i have a V6 and come with 19" wheels lol. Dont worry since alot of ppl are buying smaller cars...my manufacturer just cant read the market.

the point is that in a market which is moving away from trucks, crossovers and SUVs, what is the strategy behind launching another product in that segment. ford has literally five cars in its lineup (sedans + coupes) and eleven trucks/SUVs (flex being the 11th).

the best ford makes imo is the F150, Escape and Mustang, which are legacy brands......everything else is a ME TOO product.

chances are that this new SUV wont fly. they need to put out more hybrids...right now they have just one.

the market is moving towards crossovers you dummy. crossovers and small vehicles (hybrids etc)...maybe honda shouldnt make premium fuel guzzling k-powered cars right?

szuberi is right, ford's primary products are their trucks, which are built really good imo. As for their cars, they are slowly catching up.

what is a crossover? a fancy sexy term for the same truck or suv with a sleek and swooping body line while the engine size, emissions, curb weight is all the same???

sales of trucks/suvs or xovers whatever u wanna call it...is down over 30% just in the past quarter and is predicted by the BIG 3 themselves, at 50% in the next year...so my friend, the market is not moving towards this segment.

ford says most of their suvs achieve 30MPG on the hwy...which is a lie bigger than iraq having wmds? maybe folks at your dealership are somewhow convincing the buyers to believe that EPA sticker plus a discounted price which they are offered. then they start driving and discover...wait a minute fred, this is getting very expensive in gas. yes it is johnny cuz them 19" wheels look good but add weight too son.

all this is besides the point however....the point was the product mix at these big 3....why launch an SUV in this market? chrysler was dumb enough to launch a new suv called journey a short while ago...lol.

and hey K20 SI is not a gas guzzler...its still a lightweight civic and still gives me 500+K on the tank. it only costs a bit more cuz it takes premium. besides, only about 7% of all honda civics sold are the SIs.

even for honda....the suv sales are down...CRV being the exception of course.

The only reason they are making them is because they discontinued making vans, plain and simple.

^that is true but does that shows a shift towards more efficient vehicles or just a product mix change?

Lets put it this way, Domestics always seem to be behind when it comes to innovative thinking with the exception of Chrysler when they did the minivan and currently continue to innovate when it comes to storage and such. Other than that, Domestic companies always follow years behind the Japs and Euro's when it comes to building cars to be efficient. Watch the next trend and see what happens years later.

Not to mention that van sales are down and SUV/crossovers are up if you compare the two. That is why they don't make vans anymore

I work for a ford dealership and I think the flex looks like a boxier taurus x, and we all know how well the taurus x did. I wonder how much money the r & d guys make coming up with ugly designs...The only thing keeping ford afloat is their pick up trucks. The honda ridgeline and toyota tundra are on the heels of the f150 so I think in a few years they'll be in the top of that category too. Ford took over a 4 billion dollar loss when they sold land rover/jaguar. Skydome?...lol. I'll take a mazda cx9 over the flex any day of the week. While I;m bashing ford...whats with the new ford commercials...bashing honda. The girl in the commercial is a former honda owner and loves the focus? That car is a piece of junk. Hardly a comparison to the civic in all trim levels. Honda should do a civic commercial with all of the losers(minus badging of course) in the background. And have a big sign "best selling car 10 years in a row"

ridgeline isnt even a real pick up truck so I dont know how u can say its on the heels of a F150...a truck that can actually do things

oh there is another difference between an SUV and a crossover...SUV are built on a truck frame and use truck driveline components where as a crossover is built on a car chassis and use car driveline components. so they are 2 different categories...2 different breeds and they actually do get pretty decent mileage.
