Finally settled in...

Hey Guys,

Some of you might remember I posted back about getting my 08 Civic to 300hp... sorry if it seemed like I was just droppin' in for free advice but the move has been a tough one for me!

Anyways, finally all settled in here in Etobicoke... seen a few Toronto Civic Club stickers around but haven't got the gall to say hi to anyone yet.

A few people though it was dumb to put 300hp on a fwd car, I'm wondering why? What I'm looking for is just to shave time off of 0-100km/hr because realistically with the new speeding laws thats the only thrill you can get these days.

Any of you guys located in the Etobicoke region? I know in the 4 weeks I've been here i've seen 3 civic del sols, 1 pink, 2 red... and an older red civic with a really high pitched (like lawnmower) exhaust, who I raced around with on the Gardiner's express for alittle while a couple weeks ago.

If street racing = 125km/h on the 401 then yes

Raced around = passed each other back and forth for a little while. Should have said "zipped around" I take it?

To put my views more plainly:

"street racing" = my pretty new car crumpled up on the side of the highway and me along with it at best... others along with me at worst

"street racing" = I lose my car, and by extension my job (sales rep for Toronto and southwestern Ontario)

"street racing" = Tickets I can't afford (especially if I lose my job.)

No need to jump on a poor choice of words

why mod a new car??

why not destroy the re-sale value on something that has already depreciated a little?? just a thought...(even an 06 would be more cost effective)

hahaha i lve your description of fun from 0-100km its true, reminds me of an ali G movie.

On the other hand since you have a 08 all you really need is bolt-on, and to increase your revving department, by adding a light flywheel, pulleys, a nice clutch kit and the usual add ons, this is for a decent 0-100 time slash, 300hp it way too much to put in for just random street fun within speed limits. 300hp on a 08 would be a serious investment for the track.

happy modding

If I'm selling the car in 6 years (company rules) why would it matter if I bought an 08 or an 06? Any money I get for it in the end is a bonus, and I got a civic specifically because of availability of aftermarket parts.

But for money/performance increase would it not be better value just to spend the money on a turbo and then over time do make the changes to the engine I need to put in more boost?

Money isn't an issue here, I am patient and work a good job. I want something I can have fun with on long drives (something that makes me want to take the scenic root) and take the track to beat the crap out of in 4 or 5 years.

well if you haven't bought the car yet, you might as well mod a cheaper one.

Does you company know you going to be driving an unreliable project car??

Already bought the car, sorry... I realize I didn't make that clear.

I've heard good things from lots of people about putting turbos/sc in civics... it was one of the factors when buying i.e. how easy it was to make it faster. Were these people wrong?

Is there a specific reason you are focusing so heavily on potential negatives?
