that fender spot that rusts on hatchs

I was wondering if anybody knows any links to "how tos" on fixing the rust on the rear fenders of civics. I have a 95 hatch and one side is starting to get pretty bubbly. (actually when i sanded it down to touch it up a small hole appeared)

I want to patch it myself and i wonder if anybody had any particular techniques.

What about drilling a drainage hole in the bottom of the fender as this area obviously doesnt drain very well.
I often see other civics of this genereation driving around rusty holes in the same spot...just above the rear bumper.

thanks for any help.

It is always a good idea to either clean out or remove the rubber strip that is in the rear wheel wells. A lot of dirt sits in there and eats away at the fender.

^^^

Do what both of them said.

If you don't weld, than take it to somewhere that does welding, and get new metal put in.

I work at Honda and can tell you why... there was a "mystery" (no-one could see it) deform problem with all our cars and they all had to be checked with a stone, this removed most of the rust protection that came on the steel...

Get new metal welded in.

Another reason I've been told to why we get lovely Honda Rot is do to the way the fender lip is put together, doesn't let water drain out.
