Is this a fair deal on a Civic?

Helping my GF buy a car and need your opinions. Here's the deal:

- '93 Teal Si Coupe
- 126K kms
- auto, air, sunroof
- antena is broken in the housing
- front and rear bumper are scuffed and will need repainting ($500 to fix?)
- rear quarter panel is dented and very little rust ($500 to fix?)
- one hubcap is chipped

Other than that the car seems to run pretty well and there's no other rust.
So I'm estimating it will run us a G note to fix the bumpers and dent.
Guy will sell us the car for $4,600 e-tested. We'll certify ourselves.

I think this is a decent deal but want other opinions. Do you guys think I'm on par with the repair estimates??

Anything I should keep an eye out for?

THANKS in advance!

Yes your estimates are about right give or take $200. The car itself sounds like its in good shape are you sure about the 126,000 kilometres?

Get the guy to bring it to honda and get the dealership to inspect the car fully, and if it passes all of the tests then tell him you will pay for the cost of the inspections on top of the payment for the car. This way he is out of money if the car isn't in the condition he said it was in and you only pay a little extra for a good car.

This is actually a good deal for the car if it has the low kms and nothing else is wrong except for a little rust and paint chips and antenna.

I bought a car like that except the thing was stick .... I paided 2200 cert and e tested.... mind you I discovered other problems as time went on.... but hey if they get it certified too thenI'd take that price.. use the flaws of the car to your advantage ...thats what I did

The guy wanted $4,900 and he was going to certify it. The reason why I talked him down with no certification is because for all I know he can go pay somebody $100 to give him a safety without looking at it.

The closest Honda dealership is booked up on Saturday (when we plan on picking it up) so what we were going to do is when we take it out on a test drive we were going to stop by a local shop and get them to take a look under the car for like $20. This is in the King and Dufferin area which I am totally not familiar with.

I did a search on Autotrader and it SEEMS to be a good deal but I'm not an expert on Civics.

Any other reccommendations?

seems like a steep price for what you're getting
im sure you could negociate down to 3800 due to the somewhat high kms

If this is a private sale make sure he has the used car package from MTO or you will be stuck with that bill.

Buy my car? It's got way more km's but it's in better shape than 1/2 the civics out there, with basically everything replaced except for the engine/tranny..also there's NO rust, which would be a costly repair in itself, and it scores SO low on emissions the mechanics can't believe it..but $6000 is my lowest pricve because I've put like $10000 worth of maintenance into it just to get it in perfect mechanical condition..basically the whole steering/susp setup, exhaust setup and int/ext care..also I've had extendsive engine repairs but not upgrades..now I need $$ and I hate to sell it..It'll be listed for $6500 in Trader tomorrow..for which I think is a good price compared to some of the rusted out, non-maintained civics for sale these days with them getting a little older..NEways, doubt you'll be interested but lemmie know if you are...

Oops sorry for the confusion. It's for my GF so it HAS TO BE AUTOMATIC!! She can't drive stick and I'm not about to teach her

(you fellas who have taught girls before know what I'm talking about!)

The AutoTrader has mostly shady used car dealers. I just want a clean car with no rust.

Can't do that. Then she'll wanna drive my Camaro SS. She'd probably wrap it around a tree.

Help me find a car brother!

Just keep searching on autotrader, something is bound to come up. Unfortunately, because you are looking at 5th gens, the only places that will likely have them will be the small independant (shady) used car lots, as most dealers do not sell used cars that old or with high mileage. Good luck to you.

But she REALLY wants stick!
I just want to find a nice, clean, rust free '93 si preferrable with air and roof. The hard part is finding somebody who doesn't want $7K for a 10 year old!

If you guys know of any please let me know.

Thanks guys and no offence to the girls with my learning stick comment.
