just get a manual and start servicing your own car. Take isht apart for no reason, clean it, put new gaskets on it, and call it a day Adjust your valve lash... change your fuel filter, change your accessory belts.

you don't need good manuals unless you are doing engine internals. Chilton and Haynes do it for me. I don't touch engine internals of course other than specs like cyl press, crankshaft endplay, valve lash, etc.

I once took like a year off from modding and playing with cars, and it came to installing my H&R coilovers, and I was like a 15 year old kid with a hard on -- I didn't know where to start. I had done my susp many times previously, but I was just outta practice. I looked around, there was my car, my tools, my parts. I was thinking to myself... WTF is wrong w/ me, I been here for 10 minutes, parts should be flying left and right at this point. I was just intimidated to pick up a wrench again. I forced myself to get started, and it was like riding a bike. Since that time, it's been non-stop. I've been working on my mini-fleet of vehicles constantly since then.

Side note - Chilton manual for 96-00 Civic has the wrong valve lash specs...supposed to be 0.20 mm intake, 0.25 mm exhaust side. Spark plug gap is 1-1.1mm
