Esso = Mobil 1

Esso = Mobil 1
Anyone use Esso gas? I heard some of our members say that Esso gas is crap, but I found out that Esso or the american version Exxon gas are owned by Mobil 1. The funny thing is that the gas were never used to sponsor the racing team that Mobil 1 sponsors.
Formula 1 and all the other racing teams that uses mobil1 does not use Exxon or Esso, they were sponsored by sunoco or shell.
Anyone that were work in Esso? I know that Esso gas stations look very ghetto and out dated, but there gas is good right?
For some reason, my Echo does not like Sunoco, it takes up alot of the gas and fuel economy goes down. Performance is super ****. My car likes Shell and Petro.
I want to conduct some tests, I don't know if anyone want to help out?
I need a comparison from many different members of this site, try to use other gas besides Sunoco, and then comapre the gases onces your done with the other gas. Make sure the tank is empty before changing gases. This test should not take an hour it should take about a week or more.
Thanks and post your results.

i stopped using Esso awhile ago and switched to Sunoco. for me my car seems to run a bit smoother and start easier with Sunoco gas.
as a side note, Esso just dropped their highest octane gas from 92 to 91

I agree Sunoco and Petro are the cleanest but I dont think Petro is the best...I think for quality of gas/performance, Sunoco and Shell are the best...they seem to run the best.

They did a gas survey a few yrs ago... and esso is the dirtiest gas on the canadian market. There was actually even a protest at the annual stock meeting at Esso b/c it pollutes the most... the protesters were throwing pennies at the ceo with the stand "it will only take pennies per litre to clean up there gas"... as far as I know nothing has changed.... Sunoco RULES!!!

I heard Sunoco 94 isn't really 94 though, it's mixed with something else (not completely sure what though), but has anyone else heard this before?
For motor oil and other fluids, I'd say Motul and Amsoil are the top guns
There are others as well like Redline and MKMassimo or something like that from Japan

I don't know exactly if Mobil 1 owns Esso. For some reason, I thought it was the other way around. If so, I think it makes more sense. Esso is still sponsoring sports but not with their gasoline products. Anyway, can someone clarify this? Actually, now that I think of it, I know someone who used to work for Mobil in China as a sales Engineer. I'll ask her....
About Esso being dirty. Yes. It is true. I believe it has the highest sulphur content of any other gasolines. Now with that being said and Mobil and Esso are related, they have separate R&D and are produced differently. For me, I almost never use Essso gas but I use Mobil 1 exclusively in my 2000 SiR. I usually use Shell, Petro Canada or Sunoco High Octane.
Sunoco Ultra 94 uses alcohol to boost it's octane rating. I believe it is actually 94. If it wasn't they wouldn't be able to advertise that. Alcohol burns better allowing for better power but at the same time your fuel economy is worse (nothing is free...)
EK7,
What grade are you using? If I were you, I would stick to regular if you are not.
Just my $0.02.

MY SiR - I agree completely, I have tried 94 and all the the other high octanes companies that was mentioned above. The 94 is the worse. For the Echo, the cheap stuff is require, but they do recommand 89 or higher for preformance. I know that it does not make a difference with the civic that I have. I do feel more torque with the 94 but high speed is super crap.
Not sure but I think Vtec and VVTi love higher ocatanes.
